Flies
This time of year the flies are horrible when doing an all day cook. Every time I exit or enter the house several also enter. Any tips out there?

A-salt rifle.

What type of fly are we talking about? There are around a million species of flies. Some are coming in to eat you, some are coming to eat your food, and some are having navigation issues caused by your house.Southeast Florida - LBGE
In cooking, often we implement steps for which we have no explanations other than ‘that’s what everybody else does’ or ‘that’s what I have been told.’ Dare to think for yourself. -
Baggie at water hanging at the door ...really worksVisalia, Ca @lkapigian

they are bad here in North Alabama, i had our pest control company leave extra sticky rat traps with us and i put a small piece of apple in the middle and draw them into the sticky trap that way, it works really well and good ahead of cookouts at the house. i have been looking at the a-salt rifles for a while i might have to pull the trigger this year.

I have 2 hanging in my garage, and the flies never go in there. I first saw these used at outdoor restaurants, and they work!lkapigian said:Baggie at water hanging at the door ...really works -
If you go the baggie of water method, some claim a shiny penny in the water is required. I have a whirlygig device near my patio cooking area, the moving parts are shiny copper. Subjectively I have many fewer flys than without it. So shiny copper may or may not be a factor. I also found that regular bathing reduced flies in my space, but that is also subjective.LBGE, LBGE-PTR, 22" Weber, Coleman 413GGreat Plains, USA

I like recycling, and I can recycle a post now!
The only success I've had against mosquitoes flies was moving to the Rockies, as far up the mountain as I could afford.

The bug a salt is pretty fun. I’ve had the original for years but just got the 2.0 last Christmas and just finally broke it out recently. The 2.0 will splatter a fly from 6” or so.. couple splatter pics.

@Lit I’ve learned to get a better angle before pulling the trigger. A perpendicular strike makes a mess every time. The glancing blows work best for me.

The big realty office where my wife works buys those salt guns by the case. New customers (that purchase a house) get one at closing. They are cool.

My realtor gave me an engraved "Botch" door knocker; it's pretty and I still have it, but a Bugga-Salt would've been a lot more fun.littlerascal56 said:The big realty office where my wife works buys those salt guns by the case.
