OT Franklin BBQ and The Chef Show on Netflix

My birthday is on July 9th and my wife just called me with some of the best news.  We're gonna head down to Austin Friday the 5th and spend the night and wake up super early Saturday morning and get in line for Franklin's.  I've never been before.  I've eaten at several other great Austin BBQ joints but never had the time for this.  I don't care how long it takes.  I'm just super excited.  Just wanted to share my excitement and had a question.  Is there anywhere close to Franklins that has breakfast/coffee within walking distance?  I've read through some other people's experiences with waiting.  Seems like I should be safe if I get there by 6:30 or 7 and bring a couple of chairs.

Side note....if you haven't watched the Chef Show on Netflix it's really great.  All episodes are good but the 2 with Franklin are excellent IMHO.

I'm not a coffee drinker so I can't help you there.

However, I have gone there on some busy weekends.  It seems to me that a fair number of people draw the line at 7 AM - meaning there is something about targeting 7 AM as a "get in line" time that doesn't seem absurd - so a lot of people arrive between 7 and 7:15.  As a result, I go at 6:30 - 6:45 and it works out well.

When I was visiting my FIL, we got in line around 7 and were something like 26th in line. I’m sure you can look up a nearby coffee place and have a member of your party walk to/from. Bring a cooler with beer/water. It’s a fun party.

My wife definitely rocks.  I was just kinda wondering about if there's like a special-gotta-try coffee/breakfast/taco place that's somewhat close.  I can get going with plain ol Folgers.  Just trying to get the most out of my experience.  Not that the plethora of meats I'll undoubtedly be consuming won't satisfy lol

Depending on what you want to eat there you could do what I always do and show up around 12:30. You will probably only wait an hour or so. Catch is you might not get a specific item that you are looking for. As far as your original question. There is a coffee place in the parking lot. At least there was the last time I was there.

The place in the show they get breakfast tacos at (Pueblo Viejo) looks to be 5 or 6 blocks away. That’s an easy walk in that area, IIRC.

It's for sure one of my new favorite cooking shows.  I never watched Chef either so now I have to go back and watch that.

Thank you for the offer!  I'll let you know next time I'm around for sure.  We're just headed down Friday night and headed back to Mansfield Saturday afternoon sometime after lunch.  Do you have maybe a dinner recommendation for Friday night?  Non-barbecue for obvious reasons.  Or should I just fast until Franklins =)

I recently did a mid-week run at Franklin's (and a few other Q places) but I can't comment on the weekend line management.  But you should not need to bring chairs, as there is quite a supply available right there.  I'm guessing you will be fine (in terms of menu selection) if you get in line at least by 11 AM but the line is a thing unto itself.  They do open access to the restroom for those in line.
Enjoy the groceries.  You will not be disappointed.
Your wife rocks!  The payback is gonna be he!! but worth it for sure.

I'm really not sure yet.  My wife is handling all of it.  I'm sure she'll pick somewhere either in downtown or close to it.

Tried the show, the shaky camera work was too distracting.  I may try a different episode
