Learning welding skills and eating BBQ. Sounds like a dream course/team. 21 Jump Street anyone?

Oh heck, yeah!!  You bet we do!!  We new to living in Burnet, Tx, now, where the competition is held each year and we're looking into being mentors or helping in some way.  I think this is a GREAT PROGRAM!  I'm just thankful that young people are interested in something besides computer games, social media, gangs, etc.  I think it is our tax dollars being well spent.  It gives these kids a goal and something to learn and strive to win at.  It's a very organized, well-planned, all-encompassing program.

We don't have 15,000-seat football stadiums where I live, but in my experience there is no better bang for your buck with education dollars spent than what goes to sports and extra curricular activities.

Are you saying that education dollars are better spent on sports and extra curricular over in class learning for STEM and the Arts?

I might need to see if my school needs a coach. I wonder if they’ll buy a smoker and let me use it for “research”? Hmmmmmm......

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

I heard @ryantt is considering a move to Texas. =)

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Not saying that at all. The school district I live in has nice facilities and the teams do quite well, but the entire athletic department represents about 2 percent of its annual budget. Based on the impact of this participation and its impact on kids, I think the taxpayers should feel good about the value they're receiving for that 2 percent.

At one point in time, Texas A&M was offering a course in “Meat”.  So really, this kind of thing is a college-prep type deal.
