We have dozens of deer in our neighborhood but this sighting was a surprise. The bear was about 200 feet from my house on Sunday. I guess Yogi liked the aroma of my pork shoulder!

Not sure how long I'd hang out smoking the pork with that guy lurking, at least not unarmed.

@JohnInCarolina - That was nothing compared to having a mountain lion kill a deer in my back yard a few years ago. Many of our neighbors were armed for a while when doing yard work.

We kept an eye on the bear and fortunately it didn't stay around long.

My Brother lives at the bottom of a mountain in Virginia where the Bears seem to pass through often. He told me about one morning where he came out of his house and ended up 15'-20' away from a good sized black bear. I suggested he get a shotgun when he promptly corrected me and said "with my wife in the house? I'll take my chances with the bear". It seems "his little Sweetie" has a Bear-sized temper.

If I lived in your neighborhood, I would be strapped going outdoors with my Colt 1911 in .45 ACP or at least one of my 357 magnum revolvers.  Wow!
