Outdoor Deck ideas?
I've got to redo my old worn out decking this summer/fall. Looking for ideas and help laying out features.
Right now its raised (approx 15 ft) above the slab above basement entrance, and it's just an open rectangle approx 20'x40'....maybe 50.
I'm wanting to use trex deck and have the colors picked out.
I would like to do some sort of built in seating, like you find on the beach docks, as space is limited and I don't want alot of furniture crowding the area...(i hate clutter)
I also need to figure out a way to cover my egg so I can cook when its raining...my carpenter says the low roof line may be an issue...and I would like some way to use my hammock.
Here's some screen shots of the idea of seating that's rolling around in my head

If you are replacing a wood deck with Trex, make sure to run your stringers on 12” centers, otherwise composites will flex too much! Have had mine for 15 years, and still looks great!

At least in Ga, our inspector said built-in bench season is against code on 2nd level decks bc little kids can climb off. But those regs might be different where you are. I didn't care about those rules at first, then my toddler climbed up on it and I tore it down.

Have you used this company? I didn’t look at pricing at all but that would solve a problem I’m trying to figure out for covering my patio.

I have not.

Not trying to steer you away from built in, but I find wooded benches to not be very comfortable. IF you are planning on sitting out there and using it a lot make sure you pick out some nice comfortable cushions (sunbrella products) or consider going with more traditional furniture.
Have you thought about adding electrical outlets if you don't already have some? Great for plugging in a laptop or speaker if you don't go with a built in audio system.

Mine aren't framed in but they are built in. I have a 2year old and a 4 year old. We just watch them. We live on the river and they know where they can play and not play.
We spent a lot of time getting the angle of the backs right and had the cushions custom made (4+ years ago now)
Pretty morning this morning!

Yeah, as someone else said, those built in seats are not to code and will have to be torn out if you're municipality or county requires an occupancy inspection at the time of sale......or if you have to get permit for the construction.
Trex or other composites will require 12" vs what its probably at now, 16"s. So that could increase your cost big time if you didnt need to tear out the frame.
Stay away from Tiger Deck. I blew $7 a foot in that stuff. Looked awesome for about 3 months and was supposed to be mx free. Not the case. Ipe or teak would have been the better choice.

Check out Schafer’s deck sealant on you tube for the finishing touches. Definitely a wise move.

Hello guys, We are getting tired of re-stainting our decks. We have had to replace some boards over the years due to rot. We are now thinking that we should just replace the entire deck with composite. Menards has the UltraDeck brand on sale right now here at A.W. Puma Remodeling and Restoration. Has anyone used this brand? Anything good or back to say about it. Do the composite boards hold more heat then standard wood decks? We have a dog that uses the deck daily.
