We’ve had a couple come to Jesus moments if you will. 

- They were taking her back to the OR to do a laryngoscopy/bronchoscopy to check the status of her airways. Anesthesia came in early and said “So we’re going to have a tracheotomy, right?” I replied that he either had the wrong patient or wasn’t aware of what’s really happening and to come back when he did. He looked shocked that I would have the nerve to say that to a physician - clearly he hasn’t dealt with many bubbleheads. 

- After said procedures, two surgical teams were telling me that her problem is all lower airway and needed tracheo/broncho stents inserted. Interventional pulmonolgy folks all told me her lower airways were fine and she needs the trach. Of course they didn’t come at the same time to discuss with me. I told them to all get in a room at the same time and come up with a cohesive plan that they all agree on, and come back and talk to me.

@CTMike - Way to bring it as you are right, the med community is not used to someone holding them accountable.  Sadly your experiences are likely not unique.  There is a serious lack of communication within any hospital and more than one Dr in the mix.

Moments like those just get you fired up for more opportunities to calibrate 'em.

Thanks all. Today is day 14 post-op and she is doing pretty good overall. She will be discharged to an acute inpatient rehab facility much closer to our home, just waiting on insurance approval. Might happen tomorrow but more likely Wednesday.

It has been a long road but she has been making small steps forward each day. That is all we can ask for.

So we are coming up on 1 year since my wife of almost 38 years needed open heart surgery to repair a failing aortic valve. Today we took delivery of a Peloton Tread to allow her to exercise indoors instead of outside in the heat/cold/pollen - all of which exacerbates her severe asthma.

She is starting out walking 30 minutes each day at a slow pace. If you have a Peloton or use the app, she could use followers to help keep her motivated. Her user name is Happy_Nana_of_4.

That is one thing that sets this treadmill apart (besides the price), instead of a continuous rubber belt, the deck is made up of individual aluminum slats coated with rubber. They are then linked together - similar to an escalator. Makes it very forgiving on the joints.
