@The Cen-Tex Smoker, I've been watching some of Rick Bayless' YouTube vids recently and found out that in one of his Chicago restaurants, everything on the menu is cooked over live fire. Should be nice and warm in there! And nuthin' better than a live fire cook! =)

    https://www.rickbayless.com/restaurants/lena-brava/Scott, sorry about the hi-jack.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Cool! I hope you enjoy! I've never been there, or to Chicago for that matter. Well, MANY trips thru O'Hare, but I guess that doesn't count. =)

Just watched this short vid and apparently, half the stuff on the Leña Brava menu is cold or raw.

Have you researched their childhood. Interesting story. Both are very successful in their respective fields.

Read something the other day that said they have very little to do with each other. I didn't get the impression that they disliked each other, just that they have nothing in common. Still, I know if I was Skip's bro, I'd have as little to do with him as possible.

Well...it sucked. Really disappointing and we spent $450 for 3 people. We got the ribeye, half chicken, and sea bass.  steak was under seasoned and chewy, the chicken was bland and we cancelled the fish because we had too much food (the steak takes an hour to cook and the chicken 45 mins). The cocktails were terrible (they only serve mezcal, Sotol, and Tequila). They were all so smoky that my mouth tasted like I smoked a pack of cigs. The one redeeming quality, and this is a very strange quality, was that they served crickets with the avocado app we ordered. They were fantastic. They tasted like chile-lime pistacchios. I never would have ordered them but I tried them when they showed up and I'm really glad i did. delicious. Best things on the table by a mile were the crickets and the cauliflower puree. I'll send some pics of the crickets and the other stuff in a bit.

To keep this on topic, TNWOD have landed in Chicago. It's 3 degrees outside right now.

Well, crap! Very sorry to hear this, especially since I'm the one who mentioned it. Were you at least on an expense account?

Sorry to hear it was a poor experience. That sucks. Hopefully it was just a bad night and rookie cook.

I was glad to try it so no worries. We were on expense account and we had fun. Just wouldn’t recommend it to others after trying it. I strike out a lot because I like to try new and different stuff. It’s all part of the game. And I got to eat crickets!

When I ate at Frontera in Disney Springs, they rimmed the drink I ordered with ground grasshoppers. It was quite a delicious addition.

They called these grasshoppers too but I’m pretty sure they were crickets.
