A defining day in our history.  W did the best he could do.  Our American world did change that day.  Only somewhat for the better.  Today there are too many dividers and not enough uniters.  In each of our daily lives there is much love, humility, understanding and brotherhood.  I see it every day.  The evening news and the networks perch us all against one another.  I've had enough.  The media is preposterous.  I'm glad we can all get along and that Johns favorite airport is HARTSFIELD JACKSON.

  • I was in an airframe maintenance class in aviation college.  We had a radio. but no TV.  Went over to main campus and watched it unfold.  Two days later the FBI showed up and pulled all the middle eastern guys out of class for questioning.  Some came back, some didn't.  Most were from the UAE, just party animals (would show up to wrench on airplanes in Armani suits.)

Meanwhile I worked at a helicopter operation at a busy general aviation airport.  The third busiest airport in Missouri was ground stopped for a week......it was eerie quiet out there.  We did a bunch of maintenance that week, but had to have the airport police come over if we wanted to ground run the helicopters.  Being a career pilot changed over night after that.

I believe, at my core, that truth you alluded to above. There is more that binds us together than tears us apart.

As do I Dwayne.  We're all human, equally created.  It's how we lead our lives.  Turning the tv off is refreshing.  Lets keep on my brother.

  • Most of my colleagues watched it unfold in the boss’s office.  I had a huge project at deadline I was working on.  I stayed at my computer crunching numbers, wore headphones listening to radio coverage and wept.

  • Sad day for sure. It's amazing how quickly our world changed forever. Also amazing how the country came together immediately after the events unfolded that day. We watched on a small TV in the office. I can honestly say that I've never been more proud to be an American than the months following. All the petty nonsense faded into the background and the best of human nature shone through.

  • I watched it unfold via the Internet while at work. Then  left work mid afternoon to go home and explain things to the kids. They were 11, 8, 6 and 4. They knew something had happened but didn't really understand what. They have all grown up in this post 9/11 world.

  • was a freshman in high school, watched the entire thing in spanish class while most teachers had tears in their eyes.  Hard to believe that kids graduating now will learn about this event in their history classes.

About a month prior to 9/11/01, a young businessman was excited that he was about to change employers - he landed a new and exciting position that no longer required travel.  With the new job most days he could get home early enough to do one of the things that really brought joy to his life - coaching his daughter’s soccer team.

He wanted to thank me and a couple of my co-workers for business we had done with him in the past by treating us to a nice lunch at Tio Pepe’s in Baltimore.  It was a happy lunch - he was excited, he beamed with optimism for his and his family’s future.

September 11, 2001 he went to work.  He never went home.

I was working for IPC Information Systems at the time as a field engineer in Atlanta. We had several onsite engineers for Cantor (floors 101 thru 105) and other firms which never went home that day.

Can't imagine the horror of being trapped with no escape.

I was sitting in math class my sophomore year of high school. We watched the news the rest of the day. Certainly changed the course of my life

I will remember exactly what I was doing for the rest of my life. I was a Senior in HS sitting on my bed putting my left shoe on getting ready for school listening to Peter Jennings report. I then saw what I thought was a replay of the 1st plane hitting the tower. It was only after seeing it was live and the 2nd tower I realized our world had changed. For the next year, graduating HS and entering college several of my buddies and I all thought about enlisting or wondering if this could be a moment when they reinstated a draft. I can't believe that was almost 2 decades ago.

  • I was in class teaching at Duke when most of the initial strikes went down.  Got out of lecture and was stopped in the hallway by a colleague who told me what had happened.   Terrible day.  Initial reports had far more people being killed in NYC.

Several months later my father realized that he and I and my mother had all been on AA flight 11 from Boston to LA just one month before.  That day was clear and sunny too.  Not as spooky as some of the stories out there but it shook me nonetheless.

My mother has talked at length about the day JFK was assasinated. She was 23, I was 2. She talked about how that day changed her life, made her appreciate her family more and try to make herself a better person. It helped bring her closer to her Dad (they were estranged). She says that she still gets tears when she thinks of that day.

That at is exactly how I feel when I think of 9/11.

Kenny remember this is the same guy that posts weather map d!ck screenshots at the same time people are fearing for their lives to escape a pending hurricane. That should tell you how serious to take him. But I think in the case of the above he was actually agreeing with you.

Ya actually both of you should be pretty ashamed of making light of a serious situation but then again all you know how to do is post freakin memes on a bbq forum. Keep it civil. This is a thread to remember 9/11

I’m not making light of anything.  I posted way upstream in this thread.  Nola should definitely be ashamed of himself for making fun of hurricanes with suggestive cumulus formations.

Then my apologies John. It’s kinda hard to know when you are serious or not.
