    John McCain...
Edit:  In the main, given where we are calendar-wise, this has been a collection of heavy losses.

Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

@Fred19Flintstone so that makes McCain's death "not a great loss"??  I was totally unaware of the criteria.
I won't roll into the whole health care and other issues here.

If you like him, well that's your business.  As for me, when he campaigns on an issue, his position is repeated many, many times for the voters to hear.  When he has his chance to follow through, he throws his position aside just to piss off Trump.  It's a character flaw in my opinion.  It has nothing to do with being a POW.  How about you to like/dislike whom you please.  Please extend the same courtesy to me.
    YMMV

By the way, this list was just a few folks that passed.  It's not an all-inclusive list.  Don't get all butt hurt if somebody isn't mentioned.  Add 'em and move on.

I lost respect for McCain.  He campaigned on getting rid of Obamacare, but when he had the chance to cast the deciding vote to kill it, he voted against doing so.  Why?  To jab Trump in the eye and hand him a defeat.  So, it's Country and principles be damned, for the sake of demonstrating his personal hatred of Trump.  That's petty and being small in my book.  Nothing heroic or great about that.
McCain (not unlike most politicians to be fair) was well known to be a rampant flip-flopper but that one flip flop on the ACA is what caused you to lose respect for him?

For consistency sake, I'm anxiously awaiting the rant on Trump releasing his taxes to help assuage concerns he's doing nothing more than lining the pockets of he and his family with every decision he makes. I believe he promised that a time or two during the campaign, as long as we're going to insist on holding elected officials accountable. Maybe, just maybe, McCain had a change of heart about taking away health insurance from millions. What exactly is Trump afraid of?

Maybe McCain, realizing that other Americans, less fortunate than him, and who can only dream about the level of health care he was receiving, had an epiphany that transcended political lines and honed in on the empathy of one human towards masses with similar health crises, and realized that being a patriotic American was coming together as a nation/family/tribe to help those less fortunate with something, far from perfect, but better than abject poverty and bankruptcy as a solution to life terminating health issues.

    F*ck you, Fred.

More than fifty million people die every year. They are all great to someone. We just lost a good friend, so I can't get butt hurt over people I never met and what other people I never met think of them.

I got a little bit of mileage on that, eh?  Including a "F*ck you, Fred" outta da hippie.  It's delicious to tweak the libtards on this BBQ forum who insist on making everything political.  For example, this thread started as a little review of notable people who passed this year.  I said "here's a few" at the top.  I left some off so some folks can suggest them and have a good contribution.  People here took it as insulting if somebody was left off and used it as pretense to be pissy which turned into political and pissy.
