Went to see the Blues Brothers movie when it first came out many, many years ago. When this part came on I remember there were people out of their seats dancing right there in the movie theater.

RIP Aretha. We lost a great one today.

I always enjoyed this cover of The Weight by her and Duane Allman.

Singing with the angels.  She had such a beautiful soul and voice.  FYI Elvis died the exact same day in '77.

There are so many songs delivered so powerfully, from her heart, one could choose to define Aretha.

When I think I want a very soulful and song with tremendous heart and soul, I will choose a recording released in September, 1967, Written by the celebrated partnership of Gerry Goffin and Carole King, the song was inspired by Atlantic Records co-owner and producer Jerry Wexler. As recounted in his autobiography, Wexler, a student of African-American musical culture, had been mulling over the concept of the "natural man", when he drove by King on the streets of New York. He shouted out to her that he wanted a "natural woman" song for Aretha Franklin's next album. In thanks, Goffin and King granted Wexler a co-writing credit.

The background vocals were her sisters, Aretha was the middle sister of the two.

It was recorded at the American Sound Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, under the Atlantic label.

It reached number 8, on the American Billboard's Hot 100, and perhaps is recognized by most as her signature work of art.

There are likely others that were more important, but I doubt, more real.

Yeah she's on Sirius 49 for another week. It was a nice listen on the drive home from Miami today.  They had a lot of people calling in telling stories of when they met her and/or what she meant to them.

    Very nice sentiments.
