Since the Anova crapped out and the chocolate hankering was not satisfied, I whipped out Plan B from the double top secret recipe envelope. A great friend of mine from the thriving metropolis of Snow Camp, NC gave me this recipe 20 years ago. I’ve never shared this recipe before. She calls them Dog Turds but I didn’t think that was an appropriate thread title. These things are ridiculously addictive and so easy a caveman can do it.
In a medium to large saucepan, bring the following to boil for 1.5 - 2 minutes:
1/2 stick butter
1/4 cup cocoa
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup milk. I prefer whole.
1/2 tsp salt.
Remove from heat and stir in a heavy 2 cups of Quaker Instant Oats and 1/2 cup peanut butter. Add oats first. Dip onto wax paper to cool.

Cliff Bars are the same thing and I know I have spent $1000.00s on them.
Thank you for opening the hidden vault, reaching in the back, to the secret compartment, pulling out the non descript envelope, and sharing this recipe. Fvck Cliff bars, I am now going to make my own energy bars, and save hundreds.

My grannie used to make these and I loved them. Have not had them in probably 25 years. I don't remember hers having peanut butter, but that seems worth trying. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Now if I could just figure out how to replicate her chocolate gravy.

They are one of my favorites. Love the texture of them while they are still warm. I use to eat them with vanilla milkshakes growing up. Hell I would still eat them with vanilla milkshakes.

We make them from time to time in my family love them they go by so fast next thing u know they r all gone.we usually toss the cookie sheet into the fridge after loading them up and they cool faster and get a little "hard" more firm than hard and r the best. Some times u just got to have that recipe u can pull out that doesn't take a lot of work.

My mom used to make them all the time, she called them "Preacher Cookies" because if the preacher dropped by, you could whip them up in no time with stuff you typically have on hand in the pantry. Thanks for the posting.
