The Forum Layout is a Bit of a Mess, no?

I just got my egg and was looking forward to joining the forum and still plan to participate, but I gotta ask one thing... what's up with the hideous layout? It's a jumbled mess of text and it's hard to tell where each post starts and ends. It's all crammed together without an obvious visual delineation between posts.  And the forum content itself is like 600 pixels wide... this looks silly on widescreen monitors which are now ubiquitous.  Surely I'm not the only one that feels this way?  Any plans to update the look and feel?

Are you using the full site from a mobile device?... If so go to the bottom of the page and go mobile

Mobile works much better on a phone. Go figure.

I'm using a desktop computer with typical wide screen monitors. If this forum was designed for an iPhone then it makes more sense... but surely not.  Lots of wasted space and everything is crammed together - icons, post text, signature by-lines etc - it's hard to pick out the post text from all the flair.

I'm not seeing anything "at the bottom" that mentions changing between desktop or mobile views.  Besides, I'm assuming this forum wouldn't default users to the mobile view when using a desktop browser....

I'm already on the "full site" view. It don't see "full site" (what you have in your screenshot) unless I view the site from my iPhone.

I think the layout is fine. Clean and simple - not over-designed like so many other places.

I do 99.9% of my viewing on my 27" iMac.

If you maximize the window on a large monitor why would you want the comments to expand to fill the entire width of your monitor? The human eye/brain doesn't process text as efficiently when a line of text gets too long. There's a reason newspapers use columns rather than just printing a story the full width of a page.

I have no problem distinguishing between posts in a thread due to the use of the footer at the bottom of every post and the use of the name/avatar at the beginning of subsequent posts.

No idea then, it looks normal to me when I'm on my desktop, except the Lump Threads throw me off

Clean and simple is exactly the opposite of how I would describe it.  To answer your question - yes - the content should span the full wide of usable screen real estate. This forum was obviously designed for old 1024x768 resolution so it looks a bit stilted now.

Take PizzaMaking.com as an example.... the forum spans the full width and uses alternate row coloring for proper delineation. Half the time here I'm reading someone's bolded signature thinking it's the body of their post.

Ya that's what you should do guys, make this person feel like crap for expressing their opinion. The website layout here looks like its from 2005. I don't know how to fix it myself because I'm not skilled in website design but I can tell you it doesn't look great. Now granted I dunno what it costs to run this site or to create a new one but if this is indeed operated by the mothership they should put some money into updating it to at least 2010.

No feelings hurt here...  typically these forums are pretty "canned" systems using open source frameworks (free) and it's just a matter of picking a different theme behind the scenes and/or updating to a more modern theme. Unless the site is heavily customized on the back-end (which I doubt) it would be fairly trivial.

I design corporate websites and web applications so I may be more picky than most... either way, I'm not knocking this community, I still plan to post here. Just think the place is ugly AF.

Probably not the best way to start out your career on this forum, criticizing the forum itself. I have been to better forums and have been to worse. I think if you stay here and contribute, generally those concerns will be replaced with  your excitement for "another lump thread" or "Why does @bgebrent post when it is clearly his wife doing all the work?" Ha welcome aboard.......on another note, can i interest you in a dog?

I'm sure I'll enjoy this place... with that said, I have no interest in trying to appease members I don't even know yet by keeping my opinions about the aesthetics to myself.  Nice Beagle.

I have am typing this on a 22.5 widescreen monitor as we speak and only about 40% of the screen has content. The rest is white. See example below. the OP is correct.

I must be missing the issue as I generally am on a desktop and I can adjust the forum page to whatever dimensions I want and the size of the thread and post text print as well.  Perhaps there is an upside to being a luddite.

Just don't have your browser in fullscreen mode. It's intentional so you can keep the forum open in one browser window while you are browsing porn working on stuff on the rest of your screen.
