Thought I would toss out an alertment so that everyone has time to thaw, or buy the required brisket  or give the cow a practice run.  Above all, have fun.  Always remember-the friggin cow drives the cook. Here's to finding the proverbial "feels like buttah" outcome.

I bought SRF Black for this occasion. It will happen.

There will also be Bourbon Slushies.

The last cook just completed was the best brisket I had ever cooked in my life. My Beautiful Wife, has now made SRF mandatory for all brisket cooks.

I have to say, initially, I struggled with the hassle of obtaining SRF, however it is worth it.

I think the Costco prime brisket quality has dropped off, very noticeably, over the years. I still have a couple, but SRF makes them hard to use.

I suppose there is always chili and burritoes.

    Anyway, off my soapbox rant.

We will honor the fallen and will thank those and their loved ones for their sacrifice for our freedom and our country.

Ill be cooking one as well. I may go with the $1.67 a pound packers from Kroger cause that deal is amazing. Or I may just go Costco Prime. Ill have to go look at the selection first.

HEB here in Texas has been a great place for prime brisket at a good price if you have one near.

Ya, unfortunately I am in the Dallas Area and they haven't started building them up here yet. I think they are supposed to start in the next couple years.

Make sure you take that out of the freezer now if you want to cook Sunday.  Takes awhile to thaw...

Picked up this guy. 14lbs almost. Couldn’t resist at that price. I’m thinking I should trim off that weird shaped piece of the point and cook it separate as burnt ends. Thoughts???

Deckle off means it is a flat - Costco jacks the price by $2 or $3 a pound for doing you the favor of removing your burnt ends raw material...

Give it a whirl, no substitute for experience.

I'm back on for Monday.  With us looking like a weekend full of rain, we cancelled our hotel on the beach.

After almost 15 years of egging, still haven't done a brisket- maybe I'll pull the trigger this weekend. Best I can do at this point is a Costco Prime.  I've read enough here and @lousubcap sent me a brisket 'how to' a while back.. so I think I should be able to give it a go.

@mEGG_My_Day - no thinking allowed  ;)   Just grab the protein and go.  You will get a great result going in with a packer.  Enjoy the cook and follow-on eats.  Above all, have fun.

Me when my wife finally concedes that I can call and cancel our beach trip due to the crappy weather coming, thereby saving my National Brisket Day cook.

Jealous of those of you able to cancel weekend plans due to the weather.  The women in my life are not allowing (SWMBO and MIL).  We are accompanying mom on a quick trip to Florida - ugh!  Rain chance Sunday, Monday, Tuesday: 90%, 100%, 90%.

This is what I’m working with this weekend.  I didn’t realize it was THAT old.  Wow.  It’s about time I cleaned out the freezer.  This one has been in my neighbors deep freeze just that long.  I’m very thankful that @WhiteyQ didn’t just cook it himself.

@thetrim - no worries on the age in a deep freeze and cryovac'd.  Hope you started the fridge thaw a while ago otherwise use the cold water bath to get it ready to go.  Fun cook and great eats await.
