How do they stack up to a Vienna beef dog?
They are larger and taste better.  Costs more but it is Wagyu Beef.
Used to buy 1/4# Vienna beefs locally when the kids were younger. Kinda got away from that. Need to revisit. Those SRF sound dangerous! Enjoy

I love Chicago Style hotdogs. Living in the South, they are not common.
The hotdog isn't hard to find, the trouble is finding the correct bun.

    Your meal looks great..
The correct bun is made by S. Rosen, and (like anything else these days) you can get them on Amazon:
    https://www.amazon.com/S-Rosens-Chicago-Stand-Poppyseed-Packages/dp/B00JKN1FQQ/

...or, you can make them from scratch:

Also, ketchup on a dog is an abomination (unless you are a child)

Ate my first Chicago style dog recently from a chain called Freddy’s here, I would eat another one.

That ain't a hot dog, it's a salad! I love Chicago Deep Dish pizza, but I draw the line at their dogs!
And Chicago Deep Dish ain't a pizza, it's casserole.

(and now I'm hungry for both)

One of the most amusing things about a Chicago style dog is that almost everywhere uses essentially the same recipe (including Vienna beef dogs and Rosen buns).  There is ant to how thick (or thin) to slice the tomato and pickle.

    http://www.hotdogchicagostyle.com/chicagodog.php

I grew up eating James Coney Island dogs in Houston (chili, cheese and onions w mustard), but fully converted to the Chicago dog when we moved up there. Irving’s Red Hots for Lovers (and, with pizza, Lou Malnatti) was a big contributor to my forum handle.

For those hating on “salad on a bun”:
    1. That’s the only way to get a Chicagoan to eat salad
    2. Give it a try before hating on it
    3. Don’t even think about adding ketchup

Everyone knows casseroles are square not round. =) Never quite understood that one anyway. Deep Dish has dough, sauce, cheese and meat... just like a real pizza.

Great clip. I disagree with him on several points here, but am teared up from laughing nonetheless

In about 1966 my Dad took me to Tiger Stadium for a ball game. When the hot dog guy came around we both got one. I asked for ketchup. I noted the look of alarm on all the nearby faces. The vendor said " we don't put ketchup on a hot dog at Tiger stadium, only mustard". It was a learning moment. I haven't had ketchup on a dog since. Yellow mustard, chopped onion, a little cheese sometimes, and if I'm feeling daring I'll add some chili. I can still hear the crack of the bat...
Same thing happened to me in the bleachers at Fenway in ‘86. New England style bun, Fenway frank and brown mustard.

I'm a fan of a great hot dog and my own version of the Chicago style dog. In addition I love my version of the popular Southern great dog sold at The Varsity Club  franchise. BTW today I purchased 36 dogs from Costco inspite of never ever having as much as a taste.

What I would really like to be able to buy locally is the Maxwell Street brand of Polish. Any of my Chicago based fellow eggers know a place to buy them???
Ron, Bobak makes a Maxwell Polish Sausage. I believe Walmart stocks Bobak. Check the Bobak site to see where you can purchase in your area.
Thanks for that info! Downstate Wally World doesn't carry them, but there are a couple stores within a 100 mile round trip. I'll have to do that some time soon.

Vienna beef spicy polish with deli mustard and onion is the best dog I've ever had.  Too bad they only sell them at select Lowes hot dog stands here in CA, can't get them retail.

@The Cen-Tex Smoker, I love all kinds of pizza. And deep dish is right up there with the best of 'em. Have you tried making your own? Very quick, very easy, very GOOD!

Nope, and never will. Not my thing but I’m cool that it exists.

I feel the way about deep dish that you you feel about salt. My life is better without it

    That's like me, and overrated...
    1.  Brisket.
    2.  Filet Mignon.
    3.  Oysters.
    4.  Lobster.

Oysters is 3 for a po boy
And lobster 4 for the lobster roll.
    But even they're grossly overrated.

Chicago Pie was up there, but eating it on a cold day in the Windy City with some Revolution Anti-Hero, warmed me up to it..

LOL, But I don't feel that way about salt. Doc says it's a good idea to feel that way about salt. FWIW, I haven't had a deep dish since before my open heart surgery in August 2013! I'm due for one, maybe cut back on the cheese and sausage. Yum! Dough and tomatoes! =)

Got to go to the second to the last game at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull.  Front row, third base line by the bullpen. Great game and seats.  What a stadium.

I sure miss it. Growing up in Detroit I saw a number of games there, both Tigers and Lions. I’ve never been to Comerica Park. I hear it’s nice, but stupid expensive now. I’ll stick to minor league games.

I know. Just not my thing. I eat like 2 hotdogs a year so I’m probably not to be trusted in matters such as this.
