Not kidding.  I only took a loan out once for a car.  Bought them all cash since that one time in 91.

Jeeps consistently rate among the lowest of vehicle makes in relation to consumer satisfaction.

That being said, my brother-in-law has the 707hp TrackHawk and I think it’s fair to say that he is quite pleased with it. 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. In a Jeep. That can accommodate a large family.

Another thing that drives me nuts it "what do you want your payment to be?"

Dealers don’t seem to give a crap if you pay cash either. They don’t get their loan associated fees.

Customer expectations do not match the product.  If you want quiet, comfortable, roomy, amenities, fuel economy, easy in/out, fast (trackhawks/SRT aside), then look elsewhere.

All that aside, love my wife's wrangler.

Don't forget the margin on the BS insurance policies they try and sell you.

Exactly.  Bought my son a Jetta 2 weeks ago.  Only dealt with dealer by phone prior to pick up.  We settle on a number.  I say I’m gonna pay cash.  Sales guy says “that number” is only good if you finance through VW, cash price is +$1k.  I call bs.  Can you come in today?  I say no, tomorrow.  Don’t know if I can keep it until then...  Picked up the car on our schedule and at our price.  Not my worst car buying experience.

I had a dealer once tell me cash made no difference, then he laughed and said I probably couldn't pay cash anyways (I was 19). I turned around and walked back to my truck.  He chased me the whole way saying he was kidding and didn't mean it.  I never said another word to him, just hopped in and went to the next dealer.

Had a dealer tell me he couldn’t give me what my trade in was worth because the advertised internet price for the vehicle I was purchasing was so low. I informed him that I had not negotiated that price (it was the advertised internet price) and I was willing to pay it in full, but he was going to give me fair value for my trade or I walk. Took two hours of BS with various guys walking in and out before I finally told them I didn’t need the vehicle and it was take it or leave it. They took it.

If you have the chance, try Costco. You can pick any car with any options. Only catch is you can’t pick the dealer. It’d be funny if the dealer that hosed you was the Costco dealer and they ended up selling you the car even cheaper.
Costco members will get a lower price than others, but if you are the negotiating type, you can go lower.

When buying my wife’s car last year, one dealer was willing to double the Costco discount, so that’s where we bought the car.

I’m with you. Never had a car note, and never will.

If I don’t have enough to pay in cash, means I don’t need that car.

I was recalling "my life with cars" and when I finished the episode I realized I have never traded a car on a car buy.  Private sales or the insurance company bought (engine fire on one and the middle car of a three car rear-end gang bang on the other).  I may pop that cherry in the near future.

@caliking - hard to beat "zero % or close to it" when you can keep the difference fully invested.  And even with the current down-turn cycles you can do better with the remaining invested $$ over the long-haul.

If you don’t pay cash at least bring your own financing, After the sales fucks get their shot the finance snakes try to get a bite. I have never had 1 deal with the dealer financing they didn’t try to bury some extra cash in it. I use a mortgage calculator MF that $20 extra per payment isn’t going to fly. Sadly this works on most...

Never bought a vehicle at one.  Never will.  Have been in a few to look, and get parts.  They're ALL shady.

My last nice vehicle was one year old, bought privately.  I'm in the no car note and find a good mechanic for the hard stuff and tools camp, with 2 1990s trucks.  =)

Test drove the new aluminum f-350 lariat, window sticker was 76k! No amount of negotiation will help with that!

60K is nuts.   The Cheyenne super 10 is a little tempting.  Love the Rallys.  Wish they would've been closer to original in the front end.

You pay 7-8k for a paint job on a new truck for that C10. It's an interesting throwback paint and badging, but not THAT interesting.
