I would stick with vegetarian burgers or sausage.  You can get roasts, but it's a lot of food if only 1 person is eating it.

Sorry, I've never had tofu. In fact, I always understood that "good tofu" was an oxymoron. However, I've been meaning to at least try it sometime so I hope you get some good responses here.

I just did a search on foodgawker and while they didn't have much listed under "barbecue tofu", some of the dishes looked surprisingly (to me anyway) good. Kebabs maybe? Some of the sandwiches looked pretty good too. Even a pizza!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

My elder daughter is a vegetarian, technically, an ovo-lactarian. Eats cheese and eggs. There are tofus that she likes, but I can't stand the stuff. She won't cook meat for my SIL, so I won't cook tofu for her. However, seitan and tempeh are OK. Look up recipes for those, the BBQ pretty well. Most eastern markets will have some canned seitan, pre-flavored, and some will have tempeh.

Or just grill a portabello cap. They taste great, and are reasonably nutritious. They can be filled, and be better.

i dont have my recipe here but grilled stuffed rellenos make a great app for everyone or if you find the huge poblanos they make a great meal. wrap the bottoms in foil to keep themfrom touching the nasty meat on the grill

That's kinda funny/ironic that she'll only eat the fetus and breast milk.

Store bought eggs are not fertile. So nothing is dying by eating the eggs or milk/cheese/butter.

I've made tofu jerky for my sister the vegan. It was pretty tasty.

I wouldn’t stress tofu, but go with a grilled, stuffed portobello cap or pepper.  Sauté some onion, garlic, and spinach until the spinach is wilted.  Add some drained chickpeas and diced tomatoes, heat through.  Put that in a halved pepper or top a portobello cap, and grill until that is done.  If they eat cheese, melt some cheese on top.

  • “Vegetration” sounds like a horrific mashup of “vegetarian” and “castration”..... so entirely appropriate.  =)

I jest.... Gotta throw a little testosterone around on the bbq forum once in a while.

nachos - buy some soyrizo, it's Mexican style chorizo made with soy and it's good.  I'd cook up the soyrizo, add to some black beans, onions, etc. and saute it a bit and then use it to top nachos.

I have done a chili like vegetarian dish for some people that eat meat, for whatever reason. I have tasted it once or twice. It is not brisket chili by ant stretch of the imagination, but had the flavors and a semi textur of chili.
Thank goodness they can drink an asz load of wine, and bourbon when they visit.
