I will heartedly endorse @DoubleEgger's acknowledgement of the family sacrifice. The deployments on the one side and then frequent relocations and "starting all over again" are a toll that we tend to look past.

My wife is a volunteer for Quilts of Valor, this is a national organization (each state has a chapter) that makes quilts to present to Vets. Yesterday she presented a quilt to our son in laws dad (Viet Nam), tomorrow she presenting a quilt to our other Son in Laws Dad (Korea) and one to her brother(Viet Nam).
These quilts are are all made by volunteers and you can Goggle Quilts of Valor to get more info. On the web site you can get information on how to nominate someone to receive a Quilt. -
