Honoring All Who Served...Thank You
Comments

Seems as though the thread is about honoring those who served. He’s not off topic. He’s putting things out there from another/different perspective. Just because you disagree with what he’s saying you feel the need to tell him what he can and can’t do here? Maybe the OP should be the one to handle his own thread, he is running things around here.Snellville, GA

Highlight of grandson’s first trip to NYC, Lego Store included.

He even got a wave from the man on what looks like a 50 caliber. They circle every vessel approaching Ellis and Victory Islands.

As a fellow veteran, thanks to all who have and are serving.
In the fall of 2009, my wonderful wife and I visited Bastogne, and the Normandy region of France for 3 weeks. Very moving to walk the woods outside of Foy, the beaches of Normandy, and the cliffs at Pont du Hoc, and think about the sacrifices made by those young men.
We visited as many of the American cemeteries as we could, but the one at Omaha Beach (opening scene of Saving Private Ryan) was beyond compare. A relatively new museum was built underground so as not to detract from the solemness of the grounds - incredible to see battlefield video, the kit/equipment each man was loaded out with, and think about what they faced.
By far the highlight of our trip was visiting St. Mere Eglise (Red Buttons hanging from the church steeple in The Longest Day. There we met a man from Tn who came ashore in the 3rd wave at Omaha. His neighbor was a freelance writer who paid for the mans trip to retrace his steps and tell his story. We spent most of an afternoon talking with him. Very humble man, who like most just felt he was doing his duty and nothing more.
If you get the chance, I highly recommend visiting that part of the world, makes you grateful for what we have.MMBGE / Large BGE / XL BGE (Craigslist Find) / SF30x80 cabinet trailer - "Ol' Mortimer" / Outdoor kitchen in progress.

I spent the weekend at a place my wife and I disappear to when we need to get away. I met a young man there that humbled me. Small talk about jobs and life slowly drew him out to him telling us he was a Marine. I mentioned that my son was a Marine and thanked him for what he did for us. As we talked further he said was with the 8th in Fallujah, a squad leader. He talked about the friends he lost and the guilt he felt facing their parents when he got home. He leads a memorial at Arlington every year for his men and their parents. I had no words left when we parted. I did see him across the restaurant at dinner later that night. Made sure he didn't get a bill. God bless the folks that keep us safe and remember it doesn't end for them when they come home.Xl bge ,LG bge, two 4' crusher cone fire pits. Weber Genisis gasser and

Don't know how I messed the original thread. But thanks to all who served.
I was lucky enough that my service came during peace time. But my father was on Okinawa in WWII and his brother was injured in North Africa. I have an Uncle and a half brother that were in Vietnam during that conflict. I also married the daughter of a career Army Lt. Colonel. None of my kids are following in my footsteps and serving.

One of the things I’m trying to my daughter and the kids that are in my youth group is to honor the men and women who have served our county not just on Veterans Day. When ever we are out and we see a veteran easily identified by a cap or what ever we make a pint to thank them for there service not just to this country but to us specifically. I always make sure to shake there hand and tell them how much they are appreciated. We will often pickup the tab for their coffe or lunch, it’s the least we can do. If it is an individual in uniform the same applies.
So so I would like to give all of the eggheads who have served a true heart felt thank you. Because of you my family lives in the greatest country on earth.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2 -
