SRF Briskets?

I am newer to the forum. I see a lot posted in regards to SRF briskest. Are they worth the trouble?

Buy two. Cook one. If you don't like it, I'll dispose of the second one free of charge.

I'd say yeah, at least once. Wait for the BOGO sale.

If they have that BOGO sale again, I'm loading up.

Worth trying at least once if for no other reason than to decide for yourself. But as others have said, wait for a decent promotion.

They put out the best brisket you can get IMHO.  It's a special occasion piece as prime briskets are pretty good.  Not the same however.  They are expensive.  If you want one, be sure you've cooked a number of briskets first.  Having said that, the SRF briskets are way forgiving.  Search this forum for more on these.  @lousubcap is a great brisket resource when he's on top of the water.

I charge my friend's cars up with freon, then they send me briskets. It's a good trade.  =)

They're expensive, but they're no trouble.

Surface, surface, surface and I will echo all the above.  Before you jump into the deep end of the pool (SRF) run a few CAB or prime cuts (full packers) if you can get 'em.  Done right they are all great as are any quality cuts of protein.
BTW- with any protein cut, the process is the same (trouble or not...).  The quality going in will have the greatest impact on the outcome but there is no difference in the approach.  No company affiliation here but if you decide you really enjoy the cook and results then go for it.  You will be rewarded.  The most fun cook you can have on the BGE.

The SRF's are a notch above.  I've done gold and black and now only buy black.  So yes, they're "worth the trouble" because they're no trouble.  Only reward.

SRF is the best brisket you can buy. I have done gold and black, a couple times in the last couple years, great results, every time.
I have gotten lazy over the past few months, and only been buying Costco prime, because, well, because it is there when I am there.
SRF is a great experience. You will not be sorry.

I'm odd man out.  They are 'meh in my book.  Not worth the $$$ over CAB from RD or prime from Costco.

I may just suck at cooking them though.  Buy on a BOGO and try for yourself.

Don't tell your problems to people.  80% of people don't care and 20% are glad you have them.

I have only done one SRF and it was really good. A month or so later I did a CAB Prime brisket and I thought it was just as good and it was about 1/2 the price. To be fair these were only one of each cooked a couple of months apart so it wasn't exactly a side by side comparison. CAB Prime isn't exactly easy to come by either so I would probably still pick up a couple of SRF Black briskets if I catch a BOGO sale.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

  • I cooked a creekside farms along side a Costco brisket a few weeks ago.  Most feedback was that the creekside was a  little better but not enough to justify the price difference.

@BulletGrillHouse, I assume you mean Creekstone Farms. I've cooked a couple of them. And I talked to some guys on the competition circuit. We've all concluded basically the same thing. They are VERY good. But there are some other options that are just as good - like HEB Prime 1 here in Texas.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned cooking a prime rib instead.
Better cut, much cheaper per pound too.  Age it first.
Sam's was $8 and change per lb yesterday when I cruised through the meat dept.  What's a SRF, double? Lmao

I'd never bought or cooked a brisket until I bought some during last years BOGO sale.

Didn't really find the whole cook as intimidating as I thought it might be.Turned out pretty good. I'll cook the second one when the weather cools down in a few weeks.

If they have their Wagyu briskets in the BOGO sale again later this year I'll probably take advantage of that again.

SRF came out to 5ish/lb for me. Much cheaper than rib roast.

Edit: I agree that rib roast is better

If you can't already knock the socks off a regular brisket. Go and buy a case of CAB briskets for the same price and get 4-5 practice cooks in. You will end up with a better brisket by number 5 than the 1 SRF could have ever been.

IF you are at a point where you don't think you can make your brisket any better then go ahead and get a SRF and take your game to the next level!
