For our space program, we spent over $90,000.00 1960s US Dollars to develop a pen that can write upside down in a weightless environment.
    The Russians used a pencil.

The difference in driving a Harley or a Vespa.   Both get you there, but the Harley does it in style!

Yeah but kinda ironic that 50 years later the "Harley riders" aren't capable of putting humans into orbit and have to pay to ride a "Vespa" into space. :)

Great anecdotal story with a wise moral, but here's the skinny:

Nice catch.  The real story is a heckofa lot more interesting, at least to me.

Ah yes, the West Wing.  Sorkin also did The News Room, which incorporated actual real world events into their news cycles.

only at the drawing board, i may be the only one left that uses a drawing board
There's two of us; board, t-square and triangles.  I would like one of those wheeled doo-dads that allow parallel lines to be drawn, they came out my Senior year when I was student-teaching Freshman EN Drafting ('82).
I have all of my draughting stuff in a bag in the office, but no board any more, takes up too much space. I restrict myself to hand sketches and have a draughtsman who does the CAD for me.

Don't forget that Buzz Aldrin used the pen to jump or reset a broken circuit breaker in the Apollo 11 moon lander.   That thing would still be on the moon if it wasn't for the AG-7 Space Pen!!  :P
