Instructions for a Great Crawfish Boil

Step 1: EAT A STRONG BREAKFAST. You will be drinking a lot.

Step 2: Set up way too early. Prepare for rain. Sit and wait for FedEx man to drop off Crawdads. Have a beer.

Step 3:  Crawfish show up. Have a few more beers. Play with bugs like a 7 year old boy.

Step 4: Prep the boil. Onions, potatoes, garlic, lemons, artichokes, corn, andouille sausage, green beans, mushrooms, and a whole bunch of spice. (Quickly fire up Egg because you forgot the little kids need hot dogs)

Step 5: BOIL DEM BUGS!

Step 6: Enjoy!!:

Step 7: Switch to bourbon. (This step is crucial)

Step 8: Your coonass friend (if you don't have one, go get one) breaks out pork tenderloin, whole chickens, whole onions, hot dogs, and bologna to boil because he "doesn't want to waste that good boil water and needs to make work lunches."

Stand around drinking while watching this nonsense.

Everything from Step 9 on gets pretty blurry. My garage smells like a combination of a recycle center and a backwoods Louisiana whore house. Also I think I'm going to have to burn my clothes from yesterday. But it was a blast!!

Thanks for looking. PM for reservations to round 2!

Fun post. Looks like a great time!!

I've seen lobster smaller than that first crawdad pic!!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I'm not a fan of crawfish but it sure looks like you had fun. And that's the best part.

Artichokes? Must be a rich Cajun's recipe.
Sure looks good. I love crawfish and haven't had any in a long time. Too long.

Crawfish looks great @Killit_and_Grillit. I have to say, your 'Full English' is missing quite a few items though.
  • @Toxarch my wife and my buddy's wife are pregnant and I knew they wouldn't eat crawfish but the love artichokes so I tossed a couple in there.

    They turn out surprisingly good.

Dang, I love me some crawfish.  Hard to find them in my neck of the woods though.  Assuming you order them online since they came via fedex.  Where did you order from?

We do shrimp boils in the neighborhood a couple times per year. Love the food and good times. Your boil looks awesome, and a lot of fun. Hope everyone recovers.

I went to a birthday party/crawfish boil last month in Houston hosted by someone I didn't know. I walked in the backyard to see the setup and the cook had on a purple LSU shirt, somehow you just knew it was going to be good food and I was right!

Don't forget to wash them before the boil. Very important step you DON'T want to miss.

  • @saluki2007 I ordered them from Louisiana crawfish company. They are pricey but they have statistically had the best most consistent sized crawfish. And they mail to the lower 48 in 24 hours or less. I used to have them shipped to Colorado. They would leave their warehouse at 3pm and be delivered by noon the next day.

@SGH 1) I think I've broken the code on the double seal. Combine a red tail, bourbon, another meat, and presentation. Your secret is safe with me. Wait, $hit.

    2) If I snag a 3rd one of these before Always Dreaming wins the Triple Crown does that validate a Triple Crown Seal of Approval? I'll let you chew on that while I find a way to stuff a filet into a crawfish tail.

@YukonRon people were still licking wounds this morning at work.

@nolabrew  sweet potatoes? What kind of heresy is that?

@GATraveller oh they got a bath. I bought them purged though so I figured I wouldn't add that step to mitigate confusion.  Purging is usually one of those dividing lines between die hard cooks.
