He was absolutely funny.  Abrasive at times, but funny.  He's more known these days as Mr. Potato Head from the Toy Story franchise.

That guy was hilarious......love watching him old Carson replays.  He was on one of Letterman's final shows too with Howard Stern--still a laugh riot.  He would slam somebody, then say the sweetest thing to them right after......the kind of guy where you knew he really liked and respected someone the harder he hit them.  Truly a pro.  RIP.  It's going to suck to lose Mel Brooks some day too.

There's a story about the fist time Sinatra watched Don do his act in a nightclub.
Frank Sinatra walked in and sat down. Don saw him and said "Hi Frank, just make yourself at home" and then said "And hit someone".
Frank laughed and they were friends from then on.
Took a pair big ones to say that, in public, to the Chairman of Board back in the day!!

I remember a night on Larry King Live where Don was one one-liner after another.  Larry couldn't talk for laughing so hard. I was the same!  Dang funny!

I saw Dennis Miller say he met Don Rickles for the first time on the air when Rickles was a guest on Dennis Miller Live on HBO.  So Miller says hi and its a pleasure to meet him and then asks how his career is going.  Rickles responds "Well I'm on this piece of sh!t, aren't I?"
