Making Progress on the Wood Oven
SciAggie
Posts: 6,481
I had a week to work on things around the house and made god progress on my wood oven project.
I set the oven base frame on Monday.

On Tuesday I built a form for the oven floor and insulation layer and poured the concrete.

I let things dry on Wednesday. Then I set the oven floor on Thursday.

Friday I got some young strong high school muscle to set the oven dome in place.

And to think this all started from my first egg less than 24 months ago...

There is still much work to do. At least it's starting to look like something is happening. Thanks for looki

Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...

Those highschool boys are eyeing up your spot as the local hang out. Don't let them fool you! Looking good so far!"The pig is an amazing animal. You feed a pig an apple and it makes bacon. Let's see Michael Phelps do that" - Jim Gaffigan

Looks like your base is steel? Or Aluminum? Either way, that's going to be sick! Awesome build...Large BGE - McDonald, PA

Thanks for the kind words. Eventually there will be a complete counter with limestone tops and cultured stone surface. Things will go slowly now because I'll only have afternoons and weekends until the end of May.Coleman, Texas

Your progress looks good, but I don't know if it qualifies as "God progress". Show a little humility.

Would love to see some of your awesome bread cooks in that badboy! -
That's funny - I didn't see the typo. I'm too tired from messing with stuff that's heavy. And yes - I can't wait to fire it up and screw up something...GrateEggspectations said:Your progress looks good, but I don't know if it qualifies as "God progress". Show a little humility.

Be sure to let us know when your first pizza night is. We'll all be there!
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Well deserved bump. Let's see some updated pics.
-
Since this got a bump I'll post the current status - I'm getting really close. If I didn't have a dang job I could finish in a few days.
I have the chimney pipe installed.
I have the limestone counter and the oven face installed.
I can tell you I have a whole new respect for folks that carve limestone. It was fun but I wouldn't want to do it for a living. All that's left to complete the oven is to add the insulation and then stucco the exterior. With work and filled weekends it will be a couple of weeks before I can get to it.
Once that's complete I can start cooking. The remaining work is all cosmetic.Coleman, Texas

That is incredible. Very worthy project. I thought I had it bad with all of the things I had done since purchasing the egg. You have taken it to another level, entirely. Extremely well done."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber
