Right, why wouldn't he have had contact?  Perhaps if he had no clue.  Review the transcript.

I love how Beckel on Hannity tonite said Michael Moore was out of line...and Beckel asked Hannity how hed like to wake up next to that every night after they ahowed Rosie ODonnell on a pointless rant.    Beckel is my favorite left wing media personality.

How much should the US spend on defense each year?

i would like to see it go up a couple percent compared to the gnp with a heavy push on research and developement. jobs, new advanced markets, be nice to lead a new market. i liked the star war type programs,  the chip technologies, the gps positioning stuff that was going on right before obama that brought the drones etc. , probably had alot to do with the self driving cars. whats new coming out of defense developement right now, absolutely nothing =)=)

We already spend right at a trillion dollars a year for everything defense related so give me a number. Exactly what money should the US budget to be "safe"?

Trumpty Dumpty wants to create a 350 ship navy. Remember back in St. Reagan's day that the goal was a 600 ship navy. Why stop at 350?

I'm sure there are quite a few defense related research projects that you and me aren't really privy to.
Great question. You answer. Then answer for all the other categories of the budget while you're at it. Just a brilliant poignant question right there. You must know.
I have no idea what the "magic" number is that would make us "safe". I would spend less. Actually, I would stick with the "sequestration" that Congress put in place a few years ago with one exception - icebreakers. We're woefully behind in number of icebreakers. Really do need to close that icebreaker gap!

Most Republicans want to spend more. Always more. I've not met many, when asked how much we should spend on defense related items, don't just simply say "More".

If a trillion dollars isn't enough I'm just curious what is the magic number?

Kinda like liberals only they spend on failure. Education is bad, spend more. It gets worse, spend more etc.
How do you fix that? We have the NHS as well, swallows vast amounts of money. But if you do cut costs, it gets worse faster than if you spend more! Demand is infinite when you have 'free' services. Try and charge to make people think about what they are using and there are so many exemptions for old people / children / poor / unemployed that it costs more to collect the money from the tiny proportion of people who actually pay for their treatment than the money raised.

What is clear with all of these programmes is that it is the Government interference - political priorities rather than functional ones, frequent changes of direction, 'budgeting' issues that incentivise waste etc. - are the primary cause of inefficiency.

Need to do exactly what they fear. Tear down the monopoly and provide massive choice. They will finally hold people accountable or whither on the vine. It will not be without pain and casualty. It doesn't cost more money to do your job. We spend the most and get really poor results. Need to create a culture of accountability in our communities too. I have news parents, it is your fault too. No one wants to say it but bad parents need to be publicly shamed. It's called peer oversight. We have poor children basically raising themselves while their single parent is at the bar and the other parent is absent. Disgraceful.

Next we we need to totally reform BIG EDUCATION!!! That's what JIC does for a living. It's disgusting how they shake down the tax payer which drives up tuition for the regular working folks. It only serves the very poor and the education elitist. Grossly bloated administration and professors that barely work and pawn their work off on more bloated staff. What a joke. If any other industry operated like this they would be broke. It's a total lie that everyone should go to college. Half the people don't belong there. It's just an opportunity to be lazy and then provides an excuse to not take jobs that are beneath them while they live with their hard working parents. Certainly there are lots of kids that do belong, but the current system is unsustainable if the chumps don't pony up their wasted thousands every semester. Don't think the perps don't know these things. It's all about the money.

We have previous state monopolies privatised here and they never work right because there is never true competition.  The Government always wants to regulate / control / influence to they can drive their agenda and then the private competing companies end up being lazy and inefficient because they can get away with it.  You end up with state regulatory bodies that are in the pocket of the large companies that are formed from breaking up the monopolies because these regulatory bodies are on the gravy train as well and a good place to reward political friends with a cushy and well paid job.

Yep, every moron with a boat knows for sure that DARPA's just been spinning its wheels the past eight years...
didnt i have two well placed smileys there =)  but if you think theres more real military r&d projects going right now than back in reagan and the bushes days than you hit your head harder than me. =)
There really weren't massive cuts in Defense R&D spending under Obama compared to Bush.  I write that as someone whose actual work is paid for by the DOD.
its not getting off the drawing board then, the faucets shut off on my side in fabrication and machining an actual product. most of the smaller shops are now closed that used to do this type of work.  get off the net, get that work done and off your desk, we need some work =)
Why would we machine anything when we can 3D print it?  You're just a few decades behind in manufacturing tech there bud =)
im atleast 7 decades and more behind =) the guys 2 decades behind are out of business
