@DoubleEgger. Not knowing anything about Japanese knives, can you tell me more about what they are and why such a big belly?
The top one is a nakiri bocho, which is a traditional home knife for chopping vegetables. The bottom one is not Japanese in regards to traditional shapes, but most closely resembles a Deba bocho, which is a slicing knife used for meats and fish. In this case, since Shun is geared towards the US market, it's likely just a modified knife for rock-chopping/mincing, like a mezzaluna. Shun does this with many of their knives, with just the look and edge angles matching traditional Japanese knives. Rounded edge profiles are relatively rare in Japan due to differences in cutting styles compared to Western knives.

    Anyone know what that is?
If you do, no need to 'splain. If you don't, you prob'ly wouldn't care.

Nothing big, but been wanting one for a while

I'm guessing some sort of leatherwork and/or bookbinding tool. A smooth pallet perhaps??

Based on the leather in the background and the hand holding the tool, I would guess a hand leather tool.

I'm thinking it is a leather paring knife. Used in book binding and when making assless chaps.

Do you buy them "with ass" and then use this tool to remove the offending item or do you make them that way from scratch with this?

  • On sweet little niece asked me three times yesterday if I really liked/wanted the pizza peel! I said oh yeah! I'm so glad you got it for me! Her and my other two nieces are coming over tomorrow night to spend the night with my wife and I, I told her I would make them some pizza with it, and if they didn't be have, I would use it to paddle them. She sounded excited about the pizza

We deemed my Christmas haul started in August with the Pellet Grill, into the Egg, and then of course all the stocking stuffer accessories from them until about three weeks ago, so my actual haul yesterday was watching everyone else open presents which I enjoy more anyways!!!
Just bought an Egg?  Here is what you get to look forward to now:

Plate Setter, FlameBoss 200, Spider, PSWOO-CI, Additional Rig Shelf for dome cooking, Thermapen, iGrill2, Cast Iron, Blackstone, Cooking Accessories for the Blackstone, Cover for the Egg and the Blackstone, shopping for Rub like a fine wine or IPA, and a new fascination with lump and what brand is the best-all to be debated every Friday Night.  Next desires-Joetisceriie, Adjustable Rig, Grillmates, table and more eggs
