Property in Maine and I'm drunk

I've been looking for a nice hunting/recreational/ eventual retirement property in Maine / Vermont / New Hampshire which is about 6-4-5 hours away from our CT house.  I've expressed my displeasure with this state and our puke face governor Dannel, but she thinks it's the place to be since all the family is here.  We will have to spend another 11 ish years here until the youngest is done with school, but has anyone been able to move after the kiddos were done with school? Wife is a nutcase about moving to a place without neighbors, but it's the only thing motivating me to work here until semi retirement.  

Just polling to see how it worked out if anyone made the change work ( doesn't have to be New England )

originally from nh but live 50/50 MA/ME. pick maine its friendlier to non locals.  i would have stayed in nh but the property taxes drove me out. if you're looking to stay employed though look at central/western mass

Normally I see fine photos like that, with a high propensity to later be deleted by the OP, and I debate doing the "quote" in a response post and rising them up (or the opposite) to internet perpetuity.  I actually thought of that and then realized, I'd not want that done to me, situations equal, so I restrained myself.

There's several properties I'm going to look at this week, but I'm not in a rush.  I'd like to scope out the areas and narrow down a county I like best.  Then I'll start looking more seriously.
