My dome thermometer has been way low and I suspected I fried it with too many pizza cooks. I was about to order a new one, and decided to check the length of the stem of the factory thermometer to see how far it extended into the Egg. When I looked up in the the top of the dome, I was appalled to find the thermometer stem coated in about 2" of dried on gook that must have been slowly accumulating for years. I wish I had taken a picture. No wonder it was reading low, it had 2" of "insulation" coating the entire stem!

Given your multitude of fabulous cooks, we MAY let this one slide. 

Thats odd though. Would have thought that the pizza cooks took care of schmutz like that.

Guess you haven't tired to remove and check the calibration in some time.    clean it up and you are likely back in business.
