Me too!  I love Tarantino movies.  Django was as good as Reservoir Dogs.

You're on a nice roll and a 1/2" to boot.  Iron is my favorite flavorant.  Googling "fake japanese knife " hoping to get the same result.

  • You actually have to read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in order to realize that the author, Samuel Clemens known by the pen name of Mark Twain, was actually an abolitionist. Or you could read Song of the South and discover the african version of Aesop's Fables. Sadly neither one is permitted in most school libraries or even municipal public libraries anymore.

A real man cuts his proteins with throwing stars.

They are what three of the top knife bloggers recommend, and most of the cool guys on the brethren site, so i know they are cool.

fwiw, my carbon steel knives (only three of them) aren't japanese. Why? Because 1.) neither are most of the ones that look japanese and 2.) all three are my great grandfather's, and a hundred years old

but as soon as i need a pretty knife to use in my photos for a barbecue forum, i will get one. Promise!

Context is everything.  "Nigger" is a word that should not be used in a derogatory context, IMO.  That said, banning classic books because it contains the word seems to me like a monochromatic filter is being used for censorship.

The experts claim the stamped Wusthofs, are what make the peen grow.  Thought you knew?

Plus, the patterns of a Shun wouldn't show well using a 3mp HP.  So ya did good, settling.

That thread had potential.  Was unfortunate you, the Wusty expert, bailed.  Guess there is not much to say, when you're flat out wrong.

  • Yep this is pretty sad. Hopefully the committee they have looking at the issue will decide that it's better to have a population that is educated about our racist history than not at all.  Unfortunately the trend has been just the opposite of late, and this isn't the only issue.

I think this is the poorest county in the commonwealth of Virginia. I had a project there several years ago, at Wallops. Back then, they were trying to keep it from eroding away, and building barriers to protect it from rising waters. Not a lot of people would choose to live around an airport, much less a commercial rocket launching facility.
If it were not for NASA, that place would have been a landfill, years ago, or gone.
I just hope the lady who began the quest to remove classic American literature, from the libraries, as educational resources, in order to protect children from the "N word" will not limit her scope, to just that word.
I would hope she would carry forth her effort to exclude all books with a reference to any word, found hurtful or offensive, to anyone of any race, nationality, religion, creed, sex, gender identity, etc. Not to do so, would make her seem hypocritical.
Maybe then she could battle against profanity in all forms of text, to further shield the youth from unpleasantness created by authors.
It would also solve any storage problem any library in that county, would ever have.

@JohnInCarolina Exactly.  It's classic literature not a hate mongering rant from some  supremacist.  And while I dislike the "word" I don't see taking this off the list of required reading fixing any real problems.  "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it"...one of my favorite teachers used to say this (clearly she wasn't the original author of this quote).  There is much truth to this quote IMHO.

of course, this isn't new with these words and themes and these books.  it's all in the teaching, isn't it?  If you're a school district, a principal, a teacher, you can't just put the book on the shelf and assign it because it's always been done.  I don't know how this district or others handle it, but I would think you have to go into that situation expecting someone to complain or raise a concern at some point - and be prepared for the inevitable questions, handle them proactively by explaining why that book is important, reinforce that when you teach that book.  "because it's a classic" isn't a good argument, it should be about the lessons in the book.  prepare the damn parents ahead of time - this is controversial, these are the reasons we teach this book, this is how you can help support these themes, etc.  it's not the damn language, that's the shallowest damn argument especially with the prevalence of same or similar language today in music, etc.

I don't put this totally on that parent, she's probably in a tough spot and doing what she thinks is right, the district needs to educate the parents as well as the kids and if they can't articulate why that book is important to their teaching, then they shouldn't teach it - goes for all books they teach, controversial language or not.
    Love you bro!

My favorite is "history may not repeat itself, but it sure does rhyme."  Often attributed to Twain (see what I did there?)

I also like  "some folks sure do take pride in being ignorant."
