These Asian carp are so destructive in the IL River, but this annual event makes people happy! This was this weekend's event.

Ron do you ever fish Lake Kinkaid? When I was working in Prarie States I use to fish it regularly. It's a small but beautiful lake.

Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

    Status- Standing by.

The greatest barrier against all wisdom, the stronghold against knowledge itself, is the single thought, in ones mind, that they already have it all figured out.

What he just said! I bet fishing isn't what it was when you were there!

OTOH was that you in that speed boat towing some drunk with the line between this legs and 2 beers raised high and mighty???
  • Same problem in TN river, MS river, and the Cumberland here in TN. I keep a club in the boat and just whack em and toss them to the raccoons.

Trust me... as a kid growing up on a "lake" flooded every year by the Mississippi River near Cone, IA which was near Muscatine, IA I am well aware of those trashy gars! This was back in the 1950's and when we caught them and were not choose enough to the shore then we always had branch pieces in the boat to prop their jaw open and throw those back in!

They did, they did.  I'm still waiting on dldawes1 to have his raccoon cook.  I may even furnish him the protein.  We're having a real problem with them destroying bags of feed in a storage shed.  Have caught and relocated 3 small coons, but if I ever catch that big ole mama, she won't be so lucky.

Weren't the gar native there at one point, but mostly killed off by people, then the carp were able to move in?
    Love you bro!

No - not for this event. Too many drunks would kill too many other drunks and those friggen carp would just laugh as they swam upstream to the Great Lakes. Once there then the USDC or whatever would finally get the attention of whatever congressman who can be bought off (ALL OF THEM) and gazillion$ of dollar$ will be $pent WAY too late! These horrible fish are killing our waterways!

Yes and no - those Asian Carp are NOT native to the USA water ways! BTW if you read anything about these alligators gars being able to even be interested in taking an occasional bite out of a YOUNG Asian Carp then you will understand why the Illinois political scene is considered so corrupt!

Yes, just wondering why you are against restoring a native species that is a natural predator.

Sadly, I agree.  As a boy, I'd cane pole fish with my Grandpa.  He would toss the carp, dogfish, etc out in the field instead of throwing them back in.  Said it was fertilizer. Lol

Bowfishing is making lemonade out of lemons.  Would be a blast setting up a rig with a lighter draw, and just letting loose on those bastards until you hurt.
