@ColtsFan -  give the following link a look:
http://www.firecraft.com/category/charcoal-wood  Free shipping when >$99.  Best pack/ship set-up is to order 6 bags as they pack three to a box and come thru just fine.  FWIW-

Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I stay confused and keep everyone else that way. In my lump locker I've got a bag and a half of BGE, four bags of Rockwood, three bags of vision, and am going to crack open a 40lb bag of El diablo for pizza tonight. Found the 17.5 lb bags of royal oak at wm last week for 10.00 bag, and they had pallets of them. I'll be hitting them up soon. Honestly I haven't found much difference in my cooks. I have found rock in the RO and BGE, but not enough to feel like it makes a difference.

I'm a Rockwood guy, unless RO is really cheap (bought 19 bags when it was $6 per bag)

I'm always buying and selling grills.  They usually come with lump, so I also have El Diablo, BGE brand, and Primo brand lump on hand.  BGE is Royal Oak, ElDiablo flavor is ok, but it's really sparky.  Primo bag not opened yet.

  • I use a lot of Royal Oak and Rockwood and have no preference. Similar size pieces, start the same, and cook the same. Very little scrap in either. Just went through 2 bags of KJ lump and found 10-15 small rocks and half a brick, and oh a piece of metal strapping.

RW is good lump. The problem is the price  from the (local) place that sells it. At $25 a bag, I'll buy other brands. I understand that RW does not control the final price. The local dealer has the option of selling a few bags a week or a pallet everyday.

Buy it from Firecraft, 21 bucks a bag and free shipping if you order $100 worth. Ends up being about the same cost per lb as RO form HD. I like the convenience of having it delivered.

  • I have found it in Cowboy brand before, just purchased 2 bags of RO and dumped it into my hopper and not one rock
