New Blackstone 17" Setup & Seasoning (Pics)
Hit the Griddle with 80 grit before seasoning
Started outside with several coats of Flax Oil outside (lotta smoke) and finished it off in 550º oven
Griddle flips over for storage, going to make use of that for hotplate
Hotplate 18" tile becomes backslash when cooking
Found a use for my 20# LP, good for 30+ hours on high

I like it!
Good deal with Ace too. Many folks seem to think that Amazon has the best prices. Absolutely NOT TRUE. Especially for this...
Ace Hardware, $79.99.
Amazon, $147.22!!!
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Those griddles were available last week on Amazon for about the same price as Ace.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk -

I should have gotten this instead of the big 36" cart version. In fact, I might sell mine and get this. Thanks for posting. Very nice setup and great looking cook. I did mine with flaxseed too and nothing else.Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

Wow. That's really cool. I kinda wish I'd have gotten that instead of the 36" as well. Keep us posted on future cooks!

Glad to hear you guys like it. I was on the fence, I'd never seen one in person but decided what the heck, I'll take a chance. For the size of it's footprint, it has a surprising amount of griddle space, believe it or not, only about 3 square inches less than a Large Egg!

Just an FYI on ordering from Ace online, it was my first time. They did a great job, I'm out in very Western NC, ½ hour to closet Ace, I ordered on Saturday afternoon the 6th and they called me to come pick it up on Wed the 10th, I was pleasantly surprised it arrived that fast. http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=81342696&cstruid=1121903_1095902_10245794_10854004_1119396_2144588

Every time I go into my local Ace, I look at the 36" Blackstone they have on display. The things feel solid and look awesome. It would be great for burgers, family breakfast, etc. How hot does it get? Would it be suitable for searing tuna and steaks?Athens, GA

The 17" when I seasoned it, smoked the Flax Oil (450º smoke point) right off the bat, I don't have an IR but I'd guess it hit 550º without a problem. The burger patty above was cooked on medium for no more than 2 min a side, just for reference.

That surprises me. Not sure I could do without the graduated cooking zones, and space.Phoenix -
How good is the grease trap on this as far as cleanliness and size and eveything.

Smokey, you must have some problem, regulator or something not right, they are pretty inexpensive if you don't get it replaced from Blackstone.
Miles, just measured the grease trap full up it holds just less than 2 cups, it's plenty big enough for the grill.Western, North Carolina

The grease trap on the 36 is terrible. I use tinfoil to help direct the grease/oil to the container. How well does it work on your tabletop?Joe - I'm a reformed gasser-holic aka 4Runner Columbia, SC Wonderful BGE Resource Site: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicfaq.htm and http://www.nibblemethis.com/ and http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogspot.com/2006/02/recipes.html

One more note on output, the Ace site incorrectly states 10,000 BTU, it is 12,000 BTU, it's marked in 2 places on the griddle and on the front of the box. The burner is an H shape and is stainless.
