I think its worth $69.00

All closeouts I guess they are going out of BBQ business...would not buy one of their gassers- this one is a really nice size

for smoking appetizers

I was looking for reviews and came across this:

    http://amazingribs.com/bbq_equipment_reviews_ratings/grill-smoker-combination-grill-smoker/brinkmann-trailmaster-57-vertical-smoker

Not quite the same- the one reviewed has an offset firebox.

It looks like they filed for Chapter 11 in October...but for $69 it is probably worth the "risk" if they aren't around for a warranty claim.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Yes, anything on this can be fixed without a claim and hell, it's cheaper than a plate setter...Actually built pretty nice, going to season it tonight- Cheaper than a few drinks on the town

IMHO well worth 69 dollars , well over 700 square inches of grate and solid

Would be worth it just for the grates.

Yeah might go hit up home depot tomorrow

  • I was at Home Depot yesterday and looked at BBQ accessories. They had a bunch of brinkman accessories for under $1. I got a new metal spatula, metal tongs, and beer can chicken holder for $3.00. I didn't even look at the smokers!

I went to check these out.  Coincidentally, they had three of them, but no other Brinkman accessories left.  It doesn't have much of a firebox area, but it could be well suited for appetizers like you were thinking, and perfect as a cold smoker.  I have 4 other units I could cold smoke on, so I passed.  Seemed fairly solid for a Brinkman, if anyone is on the hunt.

I hope you got a license to operate that thing. Pretty sure it requires a special lubricant:

Seasoned it last night--no real leaks - yes small firebox, but ran very steady for a solid 6 hours

Like I said in another thread Brinkmann did file Chapter 11 which means they think that though a reorganization they can stay in business and can pay off the creditors over time. Why HD is dumping Brinkman merchandise below even their wholesale cost surprises me!

In all seriousness I did give this Brinkman a double take about a month ago without paying any attention to HD's price. I was somewhat impressed with the construction...too good, I thought, for Brinkman, given its track record. Why Brinkman never, at the least, figured out the benefits of porcelain enamel, I'll never know. But my brief history with Brinkman (ending around 30 years ago) had to do with level of quality. With this latest development involving bankruptcy (which I was unaware of till RRP's post), the Brinkman's rust-to-dust rep may well have taken its toll on the company.

I made a trip down to HD yesterday after seeing this post.  The HD here in Titusville, FL did not have any of the Brinkman cookers or grills, but did have plenty of the accessories.  Sadly they did not have anything on any kind of sale.  All of the products were their normal full price.  So I had to pass on any impulse buying.  I also looked at the HD site and did a search on Brinkman.  It showed all of the smokers and cookers as being out of stock.

So I made a little drive, but probably saved a ton of money.

Same here, everything was normal. But I did see this: a Chargriller Akorn, with cart, for $279.

Went to the HD near my house. Had three of the $69 smokers. Bought two. HD guy jokingly said, "Might as well take the other one."

I bought all the Brinkmann cedar planks they had left at my local HD, 2 packs reduced to around $2 (down from $9). I got around 10 packs.  Other nearby HD had much smaller discounts, like 20% on certain Brinkmann stuff.

Every time I think I should get it, I think I'd rather have a Weber kettle. And then I think I don't really need a Weber kettle. And then I don't get anything, I stop on the way home and get ground beef and tomatoes and buns and we make burgers on the BGE.

Well for my review, it performs well for my intentions--I'm not much of a Water Pan person, I had an old Pizza Stone that fit well so I tossed that in for a Plate Setter- Needs more air intakes @ the bottom OR seal the fire chamber so all the intake air goes through the firebox ( I am going to fabricate a "disc" to solve that).....Pig Shots and Poppers worked well

Looking good!  Pretty impressive amount of grub on a $69 smoker!

That is quite a bit of food on there. Went by HD last weekend looking for this smoker and any accessories available. All they had was a single burner gas grill for $59 (reg $79).

@lkapigian I'm jealous! I was hoping to find that one after you posted it. That's a lot of smoking area for not much money. Way nicer than the one I posted above.
