Operation BBQ Relief

I saw this at another BBQ forum. I know there are people here who would be interested in helping; it's the American way, after all. 100% of donations go to feeding people on the ground.

http://operationbbqrelief.org/donate/

From the email,

Operation BBQ Relief is Responding to Tornado Disaster Areas in Mississippi and Texas and NEEDS YOUR IMMEDIATE SUPPORT!
Operation BBQ Relief is on the ground feeding folks! Several folks from Mississippi and surrounding states were deployed to Holly Springs, Mississippi and several are now on the way to Garland, TX and that surrounding area so devastated by the tornadoes.

OBR is a non-profit, ALL volunteer group of tremendous BBQ people from across the country, including many NBBQA members, that never fail to step up to the plate in the face of a natural disaster.
100% of all donations go to putting food into the hands of the victims and the boots on the ground that are helping them.
Please make a tax deductible donation TODAY. Anything you can do will be greatly appreciated.

For the record, we do a lot of work with this group and they're really some stand-up folks.  It's amazing to see the volunteers rally together when there's an emergency, drop what they're doing, and go to help.  The stories they tell are eye-opening.  They're a bunch of BBQ aficionados, many compete on the circuit (and have full-time jobs) but they help people when in need with good, hot food.  I'm a big fan of Operation BBQ Relief.

I registered as a volunteer awhile ago. It was after hurricane Sandy and there hasn't been any deployments in the Mid-Atlantic region since, but I am ready to help if I can.

  • @dmw I certainly wasn't trying to one up you, but encourage others. The area I live in, we don't have a lot of natural disasters, but I'm willing to held should the need arise.

I didn't take it as such. I think most everyone here has the requisite skills and know-how to assist. I agree, I hope everyone at a minimum donates $10 and signs up to volunteer in their region.

@cazzy how did this go down?  I'd be more than happy to help/facilitate a repeat.

Tony is being humble. He was very involved but Cazzy set up the the donation portal and facilitated the raffle if I remember this right.

Yeah, he's being humble.  He worked with OBR and set up a donation site for us to contribute to.  My part was suggesting "bbq related charity" and coming up with the raffle idea and locking down donations from some super cool vendors.  If I recall...we had Dizzy Pig, Ceramic Grill Store, Baking Steel, Amazing Smoker, Dickies and Grid Extender.

Here is Tony's donation thresd and my thread discussing the raffle piece of it:

Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....
  • They've been cranking out the meals here in Rowlett, over 12,300 meals in three days. I usually donate a couple  times a year and will be volunteering with them on Friday & Saturday.
