Fort Worth, TX

Hey all.  First time commenting since joining the forum.  Long time lurker and have learned quite a bit since joining.  Anyway, I'm heading to Ft. Worth, TX with the wife to visit her family next week and figured I'd ask the forum for some advice.  So I'll be looking for some rubs, wood chunks and any other green egg/bbq items I can't get up here in Northern VA.  Anyway, anything you all can suggest would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

When I was in Texas last April I stopped at HEB and brought back several bottles of Franklins sauce.

  • Korger has rib eyes on sale 4.99 a pound now and I believe albertsons has .99 a pound pork butts
Give me a better idea on what you are looking for

I'm sure you could order anything you want but Barbeque galore shops carry the meat church rubs in store, central market in Fort Worth has the Franklin Texas bbq sauce in stock.  The Costco in Fort Worth had prime packers for 2.89 recently if you want to haul some meat back!
  • Sweet.  Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm looking for more rubs and dry goods and maybe wood for smoking as I'm stopping through charlotte, nc on my way back and won't be able to transport meat.

If I ever go anywhere near a HEB store, I'm buying 2-3 pounds of this stuff! It's almost 7 bucks for 4 oz here! Though if I buy a pound, it's "only" $12.44. Most places don't even know what it is! NVa is probably no better.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Head up the interstate 20 minutes to Denton to go to the Ceramic Grill Store.  It's like Toys r Us for an egg owner.

There was an oil and vinegar store in the stockyards that was cool.  Plenty of places around there with $2000 cowboy hats and see boots made out of every creature known to man.

The fountains downtown were quite a sight, but hit the bathroom first or you'll be in pain.

Highlight of the trip for me was the self guided tour of the US Mint just north of town.  Absolutely fascinating.  I spent about 90 minutes therr before it closed for the day, but easily could have stayed another hour or two.

I was leaving out of Love Field, so I had a few hours to burn in Dallas.  Dealy Plaza was an interesting visit.
  • AWESOME!  Thanks for the continued suggestions.  We will be there almost a week and should have a day or 2 to ourselves so I'll definitely be hitting up some of these places.

    Sadly
no HEB up in Ft Worth but their fancy Flagship Central market does have a Fort Worth location. They do carry the franklin's stuff down here so I assume they may have it there too. It's been sold out at my store for a few weeks.

That's the best store around. The original here in Austin is my home shop. It's a full retail establishment but they are good guys and carry the right stuff.

I think it's about a half hour from Ft. Worth. it's kind of in between Dallas and Ft worth

  • go eat at coopers BBQ in the stockyards. Do not eat breakfast beforehand. It's not the best Q in TX but it's really good and a fun place to go. get the beef rib and the pork chop. get a Little brisket, little sausage, shiner bock and you are good to go.

Oh yeah- get everything dipped in the pit sauce. you won't be sorry.

Yeah, that's true.  I was at Bell Helicopter at Alliance, so I was already halfway there I suppose.

If you get up to Denton and are hungry I recommend Bet The House BBQ. And don't believe how long GPS says it will take you to get to Denton, it'll take much longer. If you go up I35 there is a Cabelas on the way if that interests you.

Ceramic grill store if you can but in north ft worth town of colleyville, foreman's general store, better than chain stores like BBQ outfitters. Have a great visit. Go to north main BBQ in euless if you get a chance, best q in ft worth.

They are great folks and make many of the best aftermarket accessories that we use. Primo is just another type of ceramic cooker.
