I guess wiki is the gospel now. Walmart flat out is a shareholder owned public company as is all publicly traded companies. The Walton family may be majority shareholders and have a controlling interest in Wally World but that doesn't diminish the 48% ownership of the company owned by other shareholders.

You are still wrong.  Walmart is a publicly traded company and just because the waltons and their foundations own 52% of the shares making them the majority shareholder, doesn't make Walmart a family owned business.  For some reason you are not recognizing the ownership rights of the other shareholders that own 48%?   Joe's Produce down the street from is a family owned business but no way is Walmart.

@DoubleEgger while all shareholders get to stand at the mic during the annual shindig, public companies act as a democracy and majority rules. I fear we are arguing over semantics. I don't think the sad trombone needs to be shoved anywhere, that would hurt!

You are missing the point.  A publicly traded company is not considered a family business.  I understand that shareholders vote and the Waltons have a majority.  That doesn't make Walmart family owned.  Ownership is shared with the shareholders.  A voting majority doesn't make them the de facto owner.  There is a board of directors, debt holders, shareholders, etc.  much different structure than a family owned business.   That is my point.  Nothing to fear about semantics though.
