Just wanted to share a proud moment in my life. I don't know anyone on this forum personally, but I know you are all good people. So just wanted to share this.

My oldest son (27) just called me and told me he finally got hired full time working for Pepsi. I know that doesn't seem like much to most people, but it is a huge step in his life and mine. We have had a strained relationship for a long time, he made some bad choices and I let him know he was screwing up.
Hence the bad relationship. It wasn't all his fault, I was learning how to be a parent and didn't always do the right thing. He had a daughter (she is an angel) when he was 21 and didn't always do the right thing by her. Got into drugs and wasn't a good father. He found a women who believed in him and got married, and slowly started to turn his life around. Long story short, he has turned his life around and this promotion is a big step for him!

When hen he called and was telling about his promotion, I went to tears, I'm not one prone to do that. So it made me realize how important family is, and how much I love my kids.

Love your family, support them and believe in them. Life is good!

Always glad to read the good news! Enjoy the moment!

and if I hd to guess, I would say there was likely some spiritual healing along the way for him? Following Christ has turned my life from meaningful to purposeful

I have a ways to go before I'm in your shoes (at least in terms of the timeline), but I do know that blood is thicker than water. Very cool to hear that your son is doing well, and that you're there to share in the good times.

  • I am so happy for your family @jabam. Family is the most important thing in my life. Without them I would be lost.

I am so glad you and your son are back on good terms. I went through a rough patch with with my dad in my 20's where I was disowned for a couple of years.

Slowly but surely we worked it out and everything is ok now. I have said it before, and I have said it again. A good woman will make a good man, and a bad one will ruin a good man. I am glad he has a good one.

With Thanksgiving upon us this is the perfect time of year for this blessing. Be well my friend.

At some point we all go through trials with our kids and it is so wonderful when that make that turnaround as our son did 10 or so years ago.  So glad for you and hope it continues in the direction it's started.

That's great.  It's never too late to change your life.  I'm living proof of that.  Congrats to your son.

  • I too can relate but from the son's perspective. I had a rough patch in my life that included drugs and women. I too had a strained relationship with my father. I can tell with complete confidence in my case that one of the proudest moments of my life was when I could sit down with my father and reflect on where I was to the successes I enjoy in life now. @jabam I am guessing your son probably also enjoyed pleasing his father just as much as he is enjoying his renewed life. Be thankful for a good son and be proud of sticking to your beliefs in parenting. It clearly worked. And @YukonRon hang in there and continue strong parenting. Your son will appreciate it and thank you when he makes that turn too.

I did not mean to hijack this thread, I was trying to lend support, in an obvious, and poorly worded response, on my behalf. For that I apologize.
This forum is the best. The people that make this forum up are the best. I appreciate all the help given, and if I started today, and worked everyday to repay the kindness given here, I would die of old age, before I could repay even half, of what you folks, have provided for me.
@johnkitchens thank you for your kindness. You people are above and beyond. That is a blessing to us all.
