Carbon Del Sur

Just bought an 18# bag of this from Restaurant Depot in Norcross for $8 and change. I've never used it but the reviews I've seen on here have all been positive.

I have yet to try it myself. Share your thoughts once you put fire to it my friends

  • I've burned thru a bag.  Runs pretty good.  I know that @biggreencraig really likes this lump and is pretty using it exclusively.

I thought it ran hot very well.  Was a little sparky at startup.  I'd use it again!

I was not happy with it. It popped so much the ashes went asround my plate setter and got on my food. That was cooking at 350-400 indirect. I will probably grab another bag next time at RD to give it another chance.

I have used it. I have 10 bags in storage. I like it. I like it a lot. I would rate it just slightly behind Rockwood in performance, but adding the price into the factor, it is hard to beat. I live in Louisville, there is no Rockwood available locally. I use CDS, almost exclusively. Good heat, long burns, quick out of smoke time/cook start times.

  • Loved the price, but the taste was way too smokey. I will stick with Rockwood.

I'm looking forward to trying this stuff.  I went to RD today, specifically to pick up a bag and they were out.

@stlcharcoal  - If you ever want to expand into the SW - let me  know and I'll rep it for you!  We need it.

Considering I can get 3 bags for what 1 bag of RW costs, hell yeah. It is superior to Royal Oak.
