Hi, I'm Botch, and I'm a Frank Zappa addict.
This post will only be of interest to musicians, and particularly drummers; you've been warned.
Most folk love Zappa for his lyrics: hilarious, obscene, political, insightful, bizarre. And they're correct on all accounts.
Much fewer folk realize how masterful FZ was on manipulating styles, genres, but most of all rhythm (he's also one of the world's best guitar soloists, unknown by many). He is the most advanced rhythmic composer in history (BT is up there, but he uses computer sequencing, not live musicians).
Here a skilled drummer dissects one of his most infamous rhythmic pieces, "The Black Page", and very nearly gets it. Non-drummers should skip to the last 1/6 or so of the video, to really get what's happening. Enjoy!

Every Move You Make. All five Police albums, remastered at Abbey Road, plus a sixth disk of cuts that didn't make it. The first 4 or 5 tunes on that disk were not that good, but damn there's some gems further on (they're programmed by date), including Murder by Numbers, where the drummer is playing in 3/4 and the rest of the band in 4/4, and they make it work! Anxious to hear the rest of them, will probably be binge-listening the whole day. I only have the first 3 albums on vinyl, so this $49 set was worth it to me.
