I need to get some nice cigars for my BIL, but I am clueless on what to get him. Just checking this thread to see what is good.

Ron, It's even more personal than wine IMO. I would check with his close friends or family. Ask for a favorite brand, size and gauge. They may know if he likes a lighter cigar vs full body.YukonRon said:I need to get some nice cigars for my BIL, but I am clueless on what to get him. Just checking this thread to see what is good.
That said, some of the stuff on here would likely please him either way if you are buying a single cigar. If you are buying a box, I would do some deep data mining. -
Will do, thanks for the input. I will ask around. I do know he enjoys "rich, full body flavor" so before buying him a box.pgprescott said:

@YukonRon You can never go wrong with the “My Father Le Bijiou 1922” or “Oliva V Melanio”. If he is into full flavor either of these he would be happy with. Both have won cigar of the year in the not to distant past.

Thank you for the help. I will look those up.CoMoBGE said:@YukonRon You can never go wrong with the “My Father Le Bijiou 1922” or “Oliva V Melanio”. If he is into full flavor either of these he would be happy with. Both have won cigar of the year in the not to distant past.
He bought me a couple bottles of my favorite wine.
I have not seen him with the same type of cigar brand twice. I do know he is into it big time though.

@YukonRon: Good suggestions from@comobge above. You may also want to consider Joya de Nicaragua’s Antaño 1970 series. They are full bodied cigars and are generally easy to find.

Thank you. I will add them to the list. Appreciate the information."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

@yukonron: Oh, and no matter what you buy, here is a tip.... If you don’t mind the discrepancy in price, I would recommend that you consider figurados (oddly shaped cigars) over standard sizes (Churchills, Robustos, Belicosos, Lonsdales, Coronas, etc.). Figurados, which are often tapered and feature shapes making them more difficult to roll, are made by the factories’ more skilled workers, meaning you are more likely to get a better roll (better draw and burn) from figurado sizes. This is a reason why a manufacturer’s most popular size is often its worst in terms of construction.
-
Right on. They often just burn better which is a big deal to an avid cigar smoker. If I get cigars that burn poorly, I don’t care what their flavor is, they ain’t for me.GrateEggspectations said:@yukonron: Oh, and no matter what you buy, here is a tip.... I can't wait to fire this up after dinner! -
Nothin special, but one of my favorite affordable sticks. Always a great predictable draw.

Accompanying my Dimple Pinch. Cheers!

The CAO stuff is a tad underrated, in my opinion. The MX2 (double maduro wrapper) is a great smoke, at least to my senses.pgprescott said:Nothin special, but one of my favorite affordable sticks. Always a great predictable draw.

Short smoke due to the weather. -
I will make a point to try one. I really like the Italia line.GrateEggspectations said:
