My Neighbours BBQ

One of my neighbours has a gasser, he always seems to marinate his cooks or has some way of driving my crazy with the smell. Not sure if he uses some kind of smoke box or what.He is a bit of a recluse, he does not say much at all, otherwise I'd ask him. Trying to figure out what he does. I know we drive the people on the block a bit crazy when we do low and slows. We had a few good comments. His are all shorter cooks, but man the aroma is awesome. Any of you prior gassers shed light on this.

You are a smoke sniffer.  Good nose.  Shorter cooks are usually hotter and out-gas more maillard reaction scents.  He may be making some smoke - gas is just a heat source.  The combination of the two will invoke a Pavlovian response and make you hungry.

Its probably a marinade.  I love marinating meat, especially when I am being good and doing boneless chicken breasts.  Good food smells good cooking on any heat source, even an oven.

Hahha.. Remember the first time I heard that statement.  

Also, the term pulled pork was different for me too until I got older.  We just call it BBQ.

This could get nasty here though.  I can see the OP getting real curious and getting a pepping Tom arrest or something.  

My question is, you know he has a gasser and he marinade... How you know that?

I chuckled out loud when I read that... Guess of all the sniffers, guess smoke sniffer isn't so bad.

Smoke wood smoke is different than the aroma of food cooking. I'm betting it is the drip  of juices and marinades on the gasser. It might be mixed with smoke from a pouch or box, but I doubt that what you are smelling. 
My neighbour notices and comments on cooks when I use the kettle or gasser for things like burgers for a larger crowd, the smell is overwhelming. Low ans slows smell good, but it is largely the smoke wood.
