Don't rule out the .22- a .22 short is as quiet as a new air rifle. They are getting harder to find but are amazing. Or look for sub sonic 22 LR.

Highly recommend the RWS barrel break guns.  One **** and they're good to go.  Mine is a 5mm that is set up for silhouette shooting.  Very flat shooting for the range you're interested in clearing.

If your just trying to scare them go the pistol route or other cheap airgun.  If your trying to alleviate them go RWS.  Bought a .22 Diana just for this reason and its a beast.  Squirrels pretty much ate every ear of corn and every tomato  out of my old garden.  Problem is, like mentioned, you'll never beat them.  No different then predator management, there's always one waiting to take its place.

I've been satisfied with http://www.pyramydair.com/ for my pellet shooting needs.

This http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007LQ3RQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage and putting the cages over all my Droll Yankee feeders solved my squirrel problem.

Bird feeders bring mice and rats anyways. Get rid of the bird feeders.

I love the sight of the numerous song birds we feed in spite of the riff raff they draw...well I guess I better just feed all the creatures and shut up and not shoot any of them, huh? LOL

CO2 suck. Pump suck. I have many.  Get the spring.  Don't shoot squirrels unless they're causing property damage or you eat them.  Otherwise you are a ****.

Your argument does not hold water.  How many flies have you killed because you were annoyed by them?  They weren't causing property damage or hurting you.  Did you eat them?  I hope so because otherwise according to your logic, you were a **** for swatting them.

    Dear Fred,

I would never hurt a fly.

PS - I'm not calling anyone a "****" especially Ron.  I just think killing vertebrates for fun is kind of dickish.  Eating them is yummy.  Just my opinion, sir.

I have an ancient SINGLE PUMP Daisy pistol in .177 which is not only accurate, it has adjustible sights AND trigger.
It was dirt cheap about 20+ years ago.
I shot Beeman Silver Jet POINTED pellets but went to a wadcutter style after I ran out.
I understand the Silver Jet pellet is now 'collectible'.

For tree rats?  I think my Daisy would work fine.   It is quiet in operation and quick to reload.
