Yes.  I own a blue egg!  Call Atlanta if you don't believe me!

In.  Gonna be interesting because I don't buy anything, I am pretty much 100% homemade, even sauces so I apologize in advance if I send you something terrible that I haven't tried.  I'll try to be sure that I buy two and try before I send.  Unless you like maple syrup of course...
I wonder if it's ok to send homemade rub in a vacuum sealed bag? I have my own rib rub that the family loves!

  • For safety and liability, I would stick to new, commercially made stuff. Just my opinion. Granted, I sent cazzy a few homemade items but he was aware and willing to chance it. I think he only had a mild bout of gastroenteritis but I'm sure it was his lack of handwashing and not my food.

We agreed 3 years ago that we should stick with new items.  Mainly due to food safety concerns.

However, you can ask your draw an anonymous question if their okay with homemade rubs.  That opens up after you're assigned a draw.

I have bought a bunch of stuff that I know I like and have bought some new stuff to try just because of this exchange. SWMBO has been like "why is there two of everything?" I'm having fun already. Several regional rubs/sauces and some that I just like that aren't necessarily "Tennessee".

I have a box ready to go with about 15 different items so far, it'll probably grow because I can't help myself. Can't believe I haven't joined one of these until now.

We appear to be "stuck" at 46 sign-ups... a lot of the big name participants on this forum are conspicuous by their absence.   Perhaps they are procrastinating? ...just waiting until the last minute to sign up?

Just from their posts, the most active forum participants are our best, most innovative eggers and I was looking forward to seeing what kinds of sauces and rubs they use and might put into an exchange package...

@cazzy Please check and see if I'm signed up. I'm not certain.  When I log on to the Elfster site I see my ID and setting but NOTHING that shows the bge exchange. Thanks!

@TigerTony what name did you use?  I looked and did not see anyone listed as Tiger Tony. I checked Anthony and Tony looking for something like Anthony "Tigertony" Smith but didn't see anything like that. Sorry.

Yup, same here. If I haven't tried it I at least want to give it a taster before giving it to someone.

In general, we have stayed away from homemade products for food safety concerns. In one week, you will be sent your draw and at that time, you can message them anonymously and ask them if they're okay with homebrew gifts.

Pretty sure they're wanting new stuff in packages, just to be safe.  However, you'd want to contact your person to see if they're okay with it.

I sent some homemade pickles to mine last time... However they didn't make it.  The box looked like they drug it to Wyoming from NC.

I am currently seeing 3 members without their handle. Please check Elfster and ensure your handle is added to the nickname field.
