95% of the floor and 75% of the screws down. Sun and heat killed us and we punked out about 3:00 today. Oh well, we'll start back tomorrow after work.Slumming it in Aiken, SC.

Your wife is going to love that outdoor space as much as you are! Great looking job so far. I'm really jealous of those mad carpentry skills.

Can't wait to see the finished product on the pergola as I'm contemplating one myself.

Looking good so far. Looking forward to the completed pictures. And the cooked bird in front of the Ryan Howard screen shot seemed very apropos (smh at the Phils).Always seeking the high I experienced from my first true BBQ experience.

@BiggreenpharmacistYou sure could have had some of our sun!Slumming it in Aiken, SC.

Only thing about that sun, I take too many beer breaks and less and less gets done and more and more gets crooked.

If it's not too late. You may want to reconsider the plastic roof. I did that on mine and have already swapped it for a metal roof. The metal ended up costing half as much (had it pressed at a big metal warehouse). The metal will last much longer and it's much more pleasant to be under. The plastic looked terrible (faded unevenly in less than a year) and left me wanting more shade than it gave me.XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum

Agree on the plastic swap to the metal roof. If its direct exposure, that stuff won't last very long before fading. Go with the metal. Who doesn't love the sound of rain on a metal roof, anyway????

Looks great. I just put shade fabric on mine, keeps it cool and shady but not dry. I tried to talk the wife into a metal roof but she wanted it to feel more open.In Manchester, TNVol For Life!

Women always push this "open" concept. It's a deck. All walls are wide open. You are building the deck for shade. The rest of the yard is sunny. Go for it. I really regret not doing it to start with. I am much happier now.XL, Small, Mini & Mini Max Green Egg, Shirley Fab Trailer, 6 gal and 2.5 gal Cajun Fryers, BlueStar 60" Range, 48" Lonestar Grillz Santa Maria, Alto Shaam 1200s, Gozney Dome, Gateway 55g Drum

Put a top on it you won't be sorry.
-
Do what you want, you can fix it later. That's a deep deck, I don't know directionally which side of the house that is, but you could potentially create a lot of shade that impacts the rooms inside those windows and door. If you turn a nice sunny room into a cave, you may not be very popular.Love you bro!
-
I built ours about 5yrs ago and I'm seriously thinking about drying it in with the smoked plastic type material. Ours creates a lot of shade but I would like it to be dry without blocking my view of the stars.

Really envious of all of your covered patios! I've been trying to gather ideas for mine for awhile now. Can't wait to see how yours pans out, @Jeremiah !! Might hafta give you and yours an invite over to la casa de Dyal to pick your brain. I can't visualize squat when it comes to construction.
-
Well then. Guess I need to take a second look at the metal. Thanks yall.Slumming it in Aiken, SC.

i dont think we'll cover ours. Our porch goes all the way around the house ( except for the sunroom in the back). So my eggis on a covered back porch, we just wanted the pergola to have a little shade and also hang plants and stuff. @jeremiah yours looks like its gonna be awesome. You have mad skills. I like @mattman3969 's setup, too.

If you don't already have a covered area I would recommend it...highly. But I love sitting outside when it's raining. It also protects the floor of the deck and allows it to last much longer. We screened ours in cause swmbo is like a reverse seared filet to bugs. Anyway, given @Jeremiah skills I'm certain he will make the right decision for his family and it will be fantastic.Fish, Hunt, Cook....anything else?
