Option E sounds quite promising :lightbulb: @st¡ke
@Eggcelsior You've still got babies so I feel ya on getting away. Ours is 20 and we're lucky to see him between college and work. I take what I can get when it comes to time with the family.  It goes by too damn fast!

Time with wife, family, and kids is the priority here. Then my interests, maybe reading, and eventually, buckling down to 'work'.

life's too short. Once worked 120  hours in a week, on salary (no OT).  Now i try to average a solid 20 hours a week with 12-16 weeks of vacation for good measure.

not rich. But happier than hell. And dinner every night with the wife and kids

Dinner every night with the wife and kids here too. Only twice per year do we go out without them.

I like to do both A & D.  Usually we go out somewhere for a nice dinner out.
But then my SWMBO will also usually give me a package of raw Filet Mignon to cook up as well.

    I LOVE my wife.

Our school is thinking of having a night every month with no homework so that families can have a home cooked meal and all eat together

we all, wife and kids, looked at each other and laughed our asses off.

That's insane @st¡ke we would've had the same reaction back in the day.  We just make time. You have to. 120 hrs in one week is boarding abuse or sadomasochism but it sounds like it wasn't by choice. the most I've ever endured was 110 hours which seemed nonstop on Chillers, Refrigeration, AC, HVAC/R blah blah blah blah during one of the hottest summer's on record. All  of us techs were completely burnt out.  Then the paycheck came.... And Uncle Sam took a healthy big ass bite! It's not even worth working that many hours even with OT.

I'm presuming you LOAO because the school is trying to help families have a meal together once a month and for you that is the norm 7/30.

I know for my family, I would laugh for the same reason.  Homework or not, it is very rare that the 3 of us aren't sitting down together for dinner.

...before we moved to the Vancouver BC area...
Trying to schedule a trip up your way this summer.  Tried a few times before but never got past Seattle. :)

One of my favorite all time restaurants is the Metropolitan Grill in Seattle. So, to keep with the original question, for me it would be "A" with dinner at the Metropolitan Grill and a room at the Salish Lodge in Snoqualmie.

I have to go with "A".  Mosca's Restaurant for me on my birthday. Gotta have their  Chicken Cacciatore. and Oysters Mosca.
I'll cook on my eggs another day.

    Yep except....
I've been married long enough to have learned to NOT give the wife the impression that "E" is a "right" or a "given".   Don't take it for granted...make her the focus of the dinner out and you'll have a lot better time. :)

We're so spoiled. My parents and in laws are all within 15 minutes. My kids disappear on the weekend except for sporting/academic events. They rarely sleep at home on Fridays and a lot of Saturdays.

This seems like the best option. I go with E as well

Brother husker, it depends. My birthday falls in mid December. That said, if the weather is nice I prefer to cook myself. However if the weather is nasty, I like to roll into the Half Shell Oyster house and throw down.

D most of the time. Nothing compares to my grill, my music, my liquor, etc...but when swmbo surprised me last year with a week in Vegas for my bday I didn't complain. That would have been E...with room service  =)

False. It's where you go when you want a brainless vacation. Even those of us who love great, unusual experiences like to veg every now and then.
