Ribeyes, Tri-Tips, carrots and brussels.
Carrots and sprouts got the butter and SuckleBusters SPG treatment. Ribeyes & Tri-Tips I went full-on Marco Pierre White. Paste made of Better Than Bouillon beef base and EVOO and nothing else. Reverse seared. I had Tri-Tip because I'm gangsta like that🔪🔥😏

John Deere is no longer allowing you (the OWNER of the machine) access to their service manuals or even parts in some cases with out involving a John Deere certified tech.
Look up “right to repair”
Imagine if you had check engine light on in the money wagon and a the only one who had the technology to fix it was a Ford certified mechanic. Sounds affordable and convenient.
Furthermore their proprietary software makes it impossible to screw around with YOUR tractors computer requiring a JD mechanic with a laptop for troubleshooting or repairs.South of Columbus, Ohio. -
Even if you have the right part, the software will not let you use it until a JD mechanic flashes the software allowing you to use the part you bought.alaskanassasin said:John Deere is no longer allowing you (the OWNER of the machine) access to their service manuals or even parts in some cases with out involving a John Deere certified tech.

They are not the only ones doing this. Also, a lot of "higher power" models have identical hardware, just different engine management software.I would rather light a candle than curse your darkness.

Quite a few states have taken action on behalf of consumers but this really needs to be a federal battle.I would encourage folks to toss a few bucks to the EFF - https://www.eff.org/ - to help counter the deep pocket corporate lobbyists.

In Europe, car manufacturers have already been prevented for invalidating warranties for service outside their dealer network as long as OEM spec parts are used. I don't know if industrial suppliers can get away with it, our consumer protection laws often don't apply to commercial contracts.

Seems like the whole idea is to keep some dip wit from ruining the expensive piece of equipment and THEN calling the service tech and saying “I don’t know what happened to this POS!” It’s an imperfect situation.

If our customers want to fix their own expensive equipment I am fine with that, as long as they understand that screw ups are at their own expense. Even though our customers fix trains for a living, they are rarely able to fix anything that they are not specifically trained on and have fault finding guides / flowcharts for.pgprescott said:Seems like the whole idea is to keep some dip wit from ruining the expensive piece of equipment and THEN calling the service tech and saying “I don’t know what happened to this POS!” It’s an imperfect situation. -
Yeah, what if it’s leased or under warranty or financed? Too much money and too many unqualified shade tree mechanics. I’m sure there’s and element of shooting fish in a barrel to it as well, but I can at least see some potential reasoning behind it.Eoin said:

Most of them don't do it because of the risk. I have one that does almost everything themselves, but their guy is a subbie and is good, we use him sometimes as well.pgprescott said:

This is beyond lease and warranty periods.

It pretty much says you own the right to use the equipment, but never the right to work on, fix, or update. Manufacturer owns that sole right (and third party's who pay for the right).alaskanassasin said:This is beyond lease and warranty periods.

This just gave me my new signature line for my work emails (slightly modified):
"In Space, no one can hear your Duress word"!
When I was a teenager you repaired/upgraded your car with a Holley, and new struts, and bigger wheels. Since getting my new car I've been perusing the Audi forums and it seems all the auto shops feature a skinny millennial with BC glasses and a laptop, and all they do is flip a few bits in your firmware (that sounds kinky) and suddenly your car is "upgraded".
And it is frustrating to know that your car already has many of the "advanced features" of the more expensive models, already built-in to the car you own; it just takes some software mods to enable them. Argh.

Lunch about ready while waiting on ribs and butt. Must have sold a bunch more flappers than drummies during Super Bowl or something. Only drummies at the local store.
