Looking forward to some Rockwood

I have used RO pretty much exclusively up until Thanksgiving when I bought some Fogo. I have really liked that stuff a lot. I never realized how smokey the RO was until using the Fogo.

The Fogo is almost gone, so I bought another bag of RO, and it tasted like I dragged the food thru the ash.

Said then, I'm ordering some Rockwood. Have 5 bags coming tomorrow.

You will not be disappointed.  Enjoy.

I just tried rw for the first time about a month ago after using only royal oak since that's all you can get around here. You're going to be amazed at the rockwood and you'll never want to see one of those red bags again. Aside from the improved food taste you'll also notice that your clothes don't smell like you've been outside burning the trash pile. Enjoy

Thanks!  I am really looking forward to it.  I noticed with Fogo that my clothes, hair, and skin didn't smell as bad (actually very little) @shucker.

By the tracking number, it should be here tomorrow, and I just ordered it yesterday around 1pm!  That is fast!

I think you're right @jcaspary, the food I have made with the Fogo was way better than with RO.  I make sure the VOC's are well burned off, but it's still really smokey.

You will love it. I cooked some chops on my weber with kbb just for fun. I have been using my egg and RW exclusively for months. Man you would have thought I cooked them over a trash fire.

Don't tell your problems to people.  80% of people don't care and 20% are glad you have them.

Yeah, we got a lot of sleet last night, which makes the roads really slick.  They did treat the roads, however what melted a little froze.  Since I drive a long distance to work (Mebane), I decided to just stay home and work.

@piney, I will try it out and see, but I am betting I will love it and would be interested in getting a buy together.  When I first got on the forum here they were forming a buy (I think around Greensboro).  I was a little shy at that time.  I would like to get it arranged though for folks around here.

I have trucks that load out of Altamahaw and surrounding areas almost everyday but today everything is quiet....Shut down I'm guessing.

I'll let you know soon how well I like it.  Wouldn't mind have a nice stash and be good on lump for a while.

I will have to look up to see who it was that organized the original one.  Maybe they'd be interested in doing again.

  • You will like Rockwood. I don't plan on going back to BGE lump. I still have 1 bag in my garage. I will probably let the kids use it in the firepit.

I think BGE lump has it's place - burgers, steaks...the simple cooks.

Jerk, Butt, Ribs? Rockwood and "flavor" of choice, IMHO, of course!

@Chubbs, I use RO mostly, bc it is the least suckiest around for the price that I've found. I think every brand can be hit or miss though. They seem to take turns on being the best and being the worst. Lol

@Chubbs, just whip the credit card out and buy 5 bags and you will get free shipping from FireCraft.  Was going to try a few bags of Ozark Oak, but decided to go straight RW.

Now, I thought the same as others about Kool-Aid, however, I tasted a HUGE difference going from RO to Fogo.  Fogo lump hardly smokes and I have heard RW is even better.  We shall see I guess very soon.

If you're in SC, Rockwood is available through any Ace Hardware.   If they don't have it on the shelf, just have them order SKU# 8400772 and it will show up in a few days on the restock truck from Ace's warehouse in GA.

I asked and looked at local ace store in Cornelius, nc and they didn't know anything about RW. I ordered 5 bags a few weeks ago. Still burning last of fogo here too! Can't wait to try RW next week after the fogo is gone.

I tried getting RW at a local place of mine, but struck out.  I consider it their (the hardware store) loss.

Brother Tar, you will love the RW. It is as neutral as I have found. No question of it.

Brother Piney, the next time you bring that big rig through the Biloxi area, give me a shout. I will hook you up with some RW and a couple of pallets of white oak. Free of charge my friend. You may be able to talk me out of a pallet of southern pecan as well.

Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

    Status- Standing by.

Come on guys, stop it.  My local BGE dealer/small-town-market is waiting on Jonathan to add him as a dealer and you guys are using up all of his stock.  Just pause for a few weeks 'til we finally can get some RW to this black hole in the middle of the corn fields.
