I would like to get a thread going related to food and grilling items that are probably only available in your state or region.  For example:

1. Ozark Oak lump - Arkansas
2. Tom Boy hot dogs - Nebraska
3.  Sahlen's hot dogs - New York

I am asking because as I travel, I would like to pick up these special items.  So what have you got that is really special?  Thanks!

I'd say Dizzy Pig, but it's becoming so widely available online and regionally that perhaps that's no longer the case that it's a regional gem?

    - Willard's BBQ
    - Dixie Bones BBQ
    - Pierce's Pit BBQ (Williamsburg, VA)

    (Excellent)Crab cakes - New Orleans

There is no such thing as good crab cakes outside of Maryland. Too much breading/filler. There's a reason they're known as "Maryland-style" outside of Maryland.

The only thing I can think of in Connecticut is New Haven pizza. Frank Pepe's, Sally's and Modern are well known to pizza aficionados.

Oh yeah, almost forgot Louie's Lunch, also in New Haven. The supposed birthplace of the hamburger.

There is one other strange but true food item that comes to mind. It is probably the worst burger I have ever had. I only mention it so you'll know to avoid it. Seriously. In Meriden, about 20 miles south of Hartford, there is a hole in the wall place called Ted's that serves nothing but cheeseburgers. STEAMED cheeseburgers. Had one once about 30 years ago. I've never gone back. As I recall, they steam the meat and cheese separately, then pour the cheese on top of the gray meat.

And yet, they were apparently on hamburger paradise and that adam richman gluttony show. All I know is, this makes McDonald's look (and taste) like fine dining.

This pic of Ted's burger is from amazingribs.com. It's amazing alright!

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Birmingham AL, You've got to get some hot dog sauce, you can buy Sneaky Pete's sauce in most of the grocery stores.

A hot dog with ketchup, mustard, onions, kraut, and some hot dog sauce can't be beat.  I thought everyone had hot dog sauce till I moved away. It's a tomato based, peppery, garlicy sauce that takes a dog to a new level.

Almost forgot... Fredericksburg VA, Carl's!!! Open February thru Mid November. Been there since 1947. The best soft serve anywhere!

The line's not always this long. Just most of the time. Moves fast though (really).
