The entire concept of a celebration involving a tree is pagan. Just sayin...DMW said:nolaegghead said:I just assembled the fake tree. Decorations pending. They're mostly pagan.

Here's some of our Christmas decorations.
The tree is artificial. I got lucky years ago and found out my wife is allergic to pine trees.
Yeah!!! No more messing with the pia real trees.

I have to take video. We were lucky enough to get some gemmy light show lights that they only made 1 year back in 2009 and they are really cool. They are 3" plastic bulbs with 5 leds in each so they can do pretty much any color and run through a 5 minute display. We bought like 8 boxes at $20 a box on clearance at BJs and now they sell used on eBay for $100 a strand.

Our 12 foot tall North Carolina Fraser Fir that was in our bedroom that my wife finished decorating just this afternoon with all of the old ornaments from our childhood and all of the kids first ornaments and the ones they made when they were little fell over this afternoon! She called me when I was on the way home from work and told me. When I came in it looked a crime scene. Almost every ornament was broken. We have hardwood floors and they didn't survive. She decorated it with the old school big C7 and C9 glass lights. A lot of the lights were broken as well. I had get my chainsaw and cut the bottom of the tree on an angle in order to get it to stay in the stand the right way. That and two concrete blocks and 8 bricks are holding it in place.
She was very upset. The tree is HUGE and it had grown crooked. I have never had one fall like this before. I had a board meeting at my country club this evening that I didn't attend. I was supposed to, but when I saw her face and all of those little kid ornaments broken I knew I wasn't going anywhere. We are actually still cleaning it all up. I am taking a break right now. Rough day! It could have been worse though.Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's -

That's terrible John! We have some breakable and irreplaceable ornaments and that sight sent a shiver down my spine. I'm sorry man.Flint, Michigan

She is going to purchase, online tonight, all of the Christopher Radko ornaments that she can find to replace the broken ones. They don't make those anymore either so I will have to get them from Ebay probably. The ones my children made can't be replaced, but that is life. I hate they are gone, but all I can think of is what if that huge tree had fallen on her.
She is 5 ft tall and weighs 90 pounds. I am so relieved that she wasn't hurt that I am okay with the broken ornaments.Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's -

No stocking hung yet. There are to many. And we put lights up on a big spruce that is out the front door.

@johnkitchens very sorry to see that. Glad she was not hurt. It is a shame about the kids decorations. None can be glued? Quite the project. But adds character to them. And a good story down the road.County of Parkland, Alberta, Canada

@johnkitchens just got it done this fall. The chimney was already in place but the home was finished with a "nook" where the FP is now. We burn a lot of wood but it keeps the up and down stairs pretty damn warm. We have not had to run the furnace really at all. Even last weekend at - 30 C or so.County of Parkland, Alberta, Canada

@AlbertaEgger my hat is off to you. I would not survive in that kind of cold!Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's

@johnkitchens there is no issue. You would adapt to it no problem I'm sure. You would be surprised I think. It's really not bad. And very sorry about the decorations again.County of Parkland, Alberta, Canada
