Cedar Planked Salmon
I just finished my best planked fish so far. I used a piece of coho salmon seasoned with maple peppercorn rub. I soaked the plank for 3 hours and then heated the egg to 350(dome) . I warmed the cedar plank for 5 min, then increased the temp to 390. I cooked the fish until internal temp reached 140. The fish had a distinct cedar flavor and paired well with spinach and rice. SWMBO loved it.

Nice. Have never had planked salmon but have always wanted to try it. I would assume you can't reuse the planks.

@lvnthedrm - if you buy the cheap planks like I do where they comes 2 to a pack for $2.99, then no you won't be able to reuse as they burn up, however if you get a thicker plank or a metal plank keeper, then you could. I tend to just burn them in pit after the cook, cleanup is easier that way.

Nice looking fish - we are spoiled here on the west coast, lots of salmon and the planks are available from your local lumber yard. Unseasoned western red cedar is our favourite. Standard fence boards or shakes are ideal, just make sure they are not treated.Delta B.C. - Whiskey and steak, because no good story ever started with someone having a salad!

Salmon on the egg is my favorite, yours looks delish. For a change of pace try alder planks. I like both, but alder is my fav.

It looks great. Was the maple peppercorn a purchased rub or from a recipe?Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Oh and by the way, www.outdoorgourmet.com sells "seconds" at a little over $1 a plank. Somebody in this great forum pointed me to them awhile back. I have no affiliation whatsoever with this co.
