OT: Hilarious article ranking each state's signature food
Perhaps my sense of humor is a bit more crude than that of most, but I thoroughly enjoyed this article.
It is perfect to post on a food forum and spark up some debate. It also took some effort not to audibly crack the F up in my office. I failed.
For those of you who are prim or proper, offended by colorful language, or lacking in boorishly lewd senses of humor..... move along, nothing to see here.

Whateves- Skyline Chili is meat nectar sourced from the heavens. No better drunk food than a Skyline Cheese Coney w/ onions and mustard. That article made me hungry.Columbus, OH

Ouch. Nebraska got 47th. And it's a Runza, people...not a hand held meat sandwich. That title alone dropped us at least 20 spots

Skyline is hot garbage. My sister sent me some as a joke, it was not funny when I ate it. Granted, it was from a can.NDG said:Whateves- Skyline Chili is meat nectar sourced from the heavens.

I'll echo this. Reasonable people can disagree about whether or not beans should be included in chili, but the article has it in its rightful place. Now deep dish over NY pizza is clearly wrong, but otherwise a decent list.Eggcelsior said:

Thanks. That is one of the funniest things I have read in a long long time. Glad I am in the top 10 with peach pie and glad my favorite dish was #2, shrimp and grits. I will give credit where it is due and say the gentleman from New York cooked up some pretty good shrimp and grits at Eggtoberfest last year.In the middle of Georgia! Geaux Tigers!!!!!

This is pretty entertaining but in general I don't pay much attention to Burneko's posts on cooking over there. It's a sports news/gossip site after all, and yet Burneko routinely posts de-facto pieces with titles like "How To Make A Burger." He has a tendency to sound authoritative and then get only about half of it right. Maybe he's just trying to troll the universe, I don't know."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

@johnincarolina he does everything in a smartass manner. They are always funny to read.

From Mission district in SF, but pretty much the same as all big burritos in California. Can't get 'em here in TX, they mostly serve skinny burritos with fewer ingredients in my experience. I miss those big burritos with fresh chopped onion and cilantro.td66snrf said:From a native Californian, what the heck is a mission burrito?

Oh, and I've had skyline/gold star, a 5-way I think. Interesting. I learned that I'm not a fan of cinnamon and meat. I think the problem is in the name, nobody would care if it wasn't called chili. It needs a name that better represents what it is - like scrapple just fits for what it is.Love you bro!

@Legume read the comments about the burrito. It's great.
-
Agree, it's funny. There wasn't such a thing as mission style burritos until the food network came along, but the burritos haven't changed, they've always been that way.Eggcelsior said:@Legume read the comments about the burrito. It's great.

@Legume I guess being from SoCal I've never heard that term. There is a Mission brand of tortillas and I thought maybe what they were referencing. I had a killer wet Chile Verde burrito at my favorite little dive in downtown Long Beach for lunch, my coworker had a lengua burrito.XLBGE, LBGE, MBGE, SMALL, MINI, 2 Kubs, Fire Magic Gasser

Fwiw, I never heard it until I moved away and I worked in SF for a while.
Love Long Beach, some great dive bars on second street 25 years ago.Love you bro! -
) Thanks for the laugh. Obviously, the author has never had good brisket (let alone great brisket) if he ranks it as #20. Still, good stuff.
